Romney Likes ‘Being Able to Fire People’

NASHUA, N.H. — Mitt Romney, already under intense scrutiny for his leadership at venture capital group Bain, inadvertently gave his rivals new material today when he said that he likes “being able to fire people.”

The remarks came during a speech to the Nashua Chamber of Commerce this morning in which he was trying to explain that he would like people to have the option to pick and choose their medical insurance and get rid of plans that don’t meet their needs.

“I want individuals to have their own insurance,” he said. “That means the insurance company will have an incentive to keep you healthy. It also means if you don’t like what they do, you can fire them. I like being able to fire people who provide services to me.

“You know, if someone doesn’t give me a good service that I need, I want to say I’m going to go get someone else to provide that service to me.”

OK, that’s different, though it might be spun the way we misunderstood it!

It will be interesting to see how much mileage the Democrats will get out of Romneys remark.

The infobabe must think a job is for life?

Like! You know. It's like a civil right.

Fits squarely with the media’s “Romney as Gordon Gekko” meme.

There is a long article about Bain in this morning’s WSJ, that doesn’t make Romney look too bad, but it can be very easily turned against him. Bain was in a nasty corporate raider business.

The point of the article is that Mutt provided the left with a ‘sound byte’ to hammer him with.

It will be used for headlines and put in ads everywhere. The rest of what he was talking about will never be heard by the average voter.

There is NO mileage for this comment he said you should be able to fire your health insurance company. OY stop falling for commie nonsense this is not to support Romney, it is to support free enterprise, in fact freedom period.

The article was biased commie crap from beginning to end Romney didn’t say anything controversial, to disagree with it Obama has to be a communist or even a straight up dictatorial lunatic.

If I would even consider voting for Romney this would not influence me one way or the other.

““You know, if someone doesn’t give me a good service that I need, I want to say I’m going to go get someone else to provide that service to me.” I’m sorry, and what exactly do you find objectionable about that???

No. But you can read, can't you? Why did you skip over this comment -- "I like being able to fire people who provide services to me" -- to settle on the non-provocative quote?

Are you trying to make his remark a negative? [RWGinger, post#9]

Frankly, Aquila & RW...you both sound like you're either...
...independent contractors/self-employed...
...or lifelong housewives...

Are you really that insulated from an office employment situation -- or any environment where bosses at times have to fire someone?

Tell us: If any of you have a boss, would you actually like hearing your boss say: "I LIKE being able to fire people who provide services to me"

Would such a statement said earnestly/seriously/soberly...send tings up & down your leg?

What do you think that might do for associate employees who tended toward insecurity or even fear about job security?

Are you both so dense that you can't tell the difference between every boss who in certain circumstances has no other choice but to fire someone ... vs. someone who says they "like to" fire someone? Really?

Bosses who get some "joy" out of firing the people who provide services for them?

Tell us again...what there is to "like" about "firing" people -- even as it becomes an obvious necessity at times?????

What he said is one million % correct, American, etc...Yes, I want to be able to fire any health insurer, plumber, phone company, doctor ... who gives me poor service. [Williams, post #13]

Some of my same comments above apply to you as well, Williams. By all means, nobody's advocating infringing upon anyone's right -- or obvious necessity -- of firing somebody. (Give me a break)

You honestly can't see the difference between having to fire people vs. coming across as somebody who "likes" doing that????

Aquila...RW...Williams...and any others who agree with them...do us a favor...next time you vie for a manager/superintendent position that could involve firing, please tell the people interviewing you -- right up front -- that you "like" firing people who provide services for you...

That should get you all some brownie/bonus points right up front...

And if you can't bring yourself to do that, then stop lecturing others on that phrase.

IF you believe this is an example of providing the left with a siound bite you are DOOMED. Period end of story, because this quote is absolutely 100% not disputable. The headline is a filthy commie trick of cutting off the end of a short sentence.

Further, the article switches from his health insurance remark to a discussion of GM (also biased) so that an idiot would think he was talking about firing GM workers.

Again, if this is your standard we can just give up the election NOW. No one can survive it. No candidate.

If I were Romney, I would demand the Obama administration say straight up if it disagrees with the sentence. To disagree would be indefensible.

I don't know what is so bad about this statement?

Part of the problem with the Federal, State and Local Governments it that we don't fire incompetent people. I see them at the Social Security Office, the DVM and City Hall.

What we do need is someone to hold folks accountable. And if that means firing employees in the system, so be it.

I, for one, am ready to fire Barrack Obama. Yes, I like firing people!

Williams, my man, you and I are savvy enough to sort thru the media’s B.S., but in a soundbite society, this will be misconstrued and get mileage.

The fact that Barack Hussein Obama is POTUS should tell you everything you need to know about the intelligence level of the American electorate.

Go read the article idiot. Here is a comment following the article (not mine):

“Way to go ABC. Don’t let editorial judgement get in the way of a sleazey headline, people might mistake you for a serious news organization like the National Inquirer.”

Yes, I LIKE being able to fire my telephone company, health insurer or plumber if they suck and as a matter of fact it isn’t that easy to do.

If you don’t enjoy having that right welcome to Obamaland and I feel sorry for you.

Yep, can you imagine what the Dems could do with this in the general?

Mitt: " I like being able to fire people "

Interview of Bain victim 1

Mitt: " I like being able to fire people "

Interview of Bain victim 2.

Lather and Repeat.

ABC will have to apologize for this headline. The comments below this despicable story are supportive of Romney. The sentence itself was shortened. Don’t play that “the average person will think ..” thing on me.

Again, since apparently the Obama admin. made a snarky remark, Romney should demand that they state if they disagree with him straight up. because I don’t want the country which disagrees with that quote.
