Obama to ask for increase to debt ceiling in a 'matter of days'

The Obama administration will be asking Congress to raise the debt limit in the coming days, White House press secretary Jay Carney said on Tuesday.

"I'm confident it will be executed in a matter of days, not weeks," he told reporters.

The notification by the administration — which had been scheduled for last month — was delayed because Congress has been holding only pro forma sessions.

Obama needs ANOTHER increase?

Why - because he’s addicted to spending like a crackhead is addicted to smoking rock?

Why not cut spending?

Things like not bailing out Europe, deporting non-taxpaying illegal immigrants that burden the system, reducing governmental regulations (and the sheer SIZE of the bureaucracy), etc. etc.

Oh right, Obama isn’t interested in saving, only spending ... THAT’S how this damn mess keeps getting worse!!!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

As I remember this second increase is automatic unless congress can pass a veto proof bill to stop it, and that bill could probably be filibustered in the Senate too.

That was part of the debt limit deal so Republicans can be seen as voting against raising the debt limit without being able to stop it and get the blame for ‘killing the recovery’ as they were accused before. In reality they already voted to increase it.

Mr. Obama, relying on precedent, can simply raise the debt ceiling by Executive Order...Congress not doing its job, important issue and all, just like the non recess appointments Mr. Obama made and call them recess appointments.
Asking Congress is just politness now.

Excellent. We need to keep bringing forth all the quotes of this man when he did absolutely nothing but undermine the Bush administration. Are the dems really that stupid to believe no one will have access to their previous posturings?

Someone here came up with a similar quote by Harry Reid a couple of weeks ago and I suggested everyone copy and paste it in an email to Reid. I did and I hope others did.

This deserves the same treatment.

Better still - send it to your congress critters and let’s see who has gumption enough to stand up on the floor and repeat these words verbatim when the subject comes up again.

Well the press certainly doesn’t call them on past posturing. That leaves us.
