Ever since Jimmy Carter and the Camp David agreement, our US government has been giving substantial sums to both Egypt and Israel to promote peace between these two long time enemies.
With Egypt going more radical Islamic (and the increased persecution of Christian Copts in Egypt) we should reduce the sums to Egypt (although some food aid will be necessary in the short term). The Islamics will reduce the role of the Egyptian Army as it has negative ties to the Mubarak years, so the military aid we have been giving to Egypt’s Army should also be reduced.
America has a policy of supporting Israel, but we should do it more covertly as Israel is very hated by Muslims and a lot of this hate gets directed towards America when we aid Israel so openly. We should move the aid payments to Israel we deem necessary to our secret or non published budget as we do with a lot of our intelligence spending. Congress still reviews the secret budget to be sure spending is done properly.
The Mid East is ready to become a big trouble area and our dependence on oil from there is a weak spot in our energy policy. We need to get our oil and gas from the US, Canada and non Mid East sources. Obama’s hold up of the Keystone pipeline was stupid and dangerous for America.
Thanks Jet Jaguar.
