96% of Negative Super PAC Spending Since Iowa Has Targeted Gingrich
WSJ - blog ^ | Jan 10, 2012 | By Jeremy Singer-Vine

Nearly all negative spending by super PACs in the presidential campaign over the past week has gone toward opposing Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker who trailed badly in polls leading up to today’s New Hampshire primary, according to a WSJ analysis of expenditures reported to the Federal Election Commission.

In total, anti-Gingrich super PAC Restore Our Future disclosed $89,962 in expenditures opposing Mr. Gingrich’s candidacy since the Jan. 3 caucuses in Iowa, where he came in fourth. That’s 96% of all negative spending in the past week by super PACs, the newest and most controversial form of political action committee, which can raise unlimited sums of money but aren’t permitted to coordinate with the campaigns.

Here’s how negative spending by super PACs looked over the past week, according to our analysis of expenditures submitted to FEC:

Negative Super PAC Spending Since Iowa Caucus

Newt Gingrich   $89,961.75
Mitt Romney   $1,548.41
Rick Santorum   $1,276.23
Ron Paul   $1,121.73

What about when Rush goes out of his way to elevate Romney, just because Romney fakes a defense of the free market.

Maybe Rush needs to lose his audience.

South Carolina is an open primary in a year when Democrats have an incumbent President. Plenty of Democrats and Libertarians are going to crossover to vote for Willard and RuPaul.

Great... Just great.

Makes me want to pound my head on the desk.

I don’t thinks this holds a candle to what FOX news has spent to kill Newt and support their guy Romney

The attacks on Newt by Shep Smith and Jonathan Hunt today have been vicious. They focused on all the negative big spending by his PAC yet completely ignored Romney's PAC attacks on Newt that cost Newt Iowa. "News Anchor" Shep sounded like an unhinged O'Reilly, editorializing like a freshman journalism major.

Word has come down to the talking heads from On High: eliminate Newt with extreme prejudice.

Rush is an entertainer, so he’s going to have a tendency to say whatever is most divisive at the moment.

You're only partially right about that. If Rush was simply an "entertainer", he wouldn't have had nearly the success he has over the last couple of decades, and he wouldn't be under near-constant attack from the left.

It's not a stretch to say that he is the voice of conservatism in the modern age. The fact that he tries to make his show 'entertaining' is an added bonus, nothing more.

That said, he royally screwed the pooch today, and I am utterly disappointed in him.

Smith and Rove were NASTY tonight. Smith lied through his teeth about Newt's record.

I was disappointed to hear Rush going after Newt today. Rush was a big Perry guy but now I guess he’s thinking Mitt will win so go for it.

Rush lost me as a listener today. I am sure he doesn’t care, but I did think he cared about the country. I won’t be fooled again.

Truth to be told, I have never cared for Rush Limbaugh.

To each his own. Your cup of tea is whatever it is.

Simply look at your reaction to Newt Gingrich after watching one of the many debates, when you saw and heard him directly, UNFILTERED by some third party. You undoubtedly thought that he was good ...VERY good, and that he “won” the debate.

Ask yourself how he could possibly have suddenly become Satan Personified and Enemy of All That Is Good About America.

Either he’s the greatest actor since Marlon Brando OR we are witnessing the most comprehensive character assassination ever, by extremely powerful forces in unholy alliance.

I have been saying all along that all the Republican candidates are good. I still believe that, but I now believe that ONLY Newt Gingrich can lead us to a Great American Restoration.

Mark Levin said Romney just won the Independents in NH tonight. NOT THE REPUBLICANS.

Well said. No one can blame Newt if he is angry, which I don't think he is, but so what. He is this to win and we want him to.

No, they want him to just stand and be their sparing partner, let us steal your lunch money and your not going to say anything. Well he is kicking the bullies now and they simply don't like it, he was supposed to be the nice little Newt. GOoooooo NEWT.

This election is not over, not by a long shot. 2 STATES, rofl, hahahahahaha, ROFL.

The most influential endorsement so far, to me, is Todd Palin’s.

Will Todd show up in SC? I think so! Sarah has to keep her power dry just in case Newt doesn’t do well. If he is a close second or a wins SC I see Sarah showing up in Florida.

This is a good video clip of Newt on The Fox Report. For some reason the video doesn’t match the text. But I love how Newt starts this interview out. Tell me that isn’t Reaganesque and doesn’t go totally against the smear stereotypes the Romneybots in the media want to paint Newt as...
