BISMARCK The preliminary November data released Tuesday by the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division indicates North Dakota now is producing more than half a million barrels of oil per day.
That's about 510,000 barrels produced a day in the month of November.
"This is big news for the state and the country. A half a million barrels a day represents about 10 percent of U.S. production. That's enough oil to displace imports from Iraq or Columbia," said Lynn Helms, Bismarck, director of the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, in a news release issued Tuesday. The Oil and Gas Division is a division of the N.D. Department of Mineral Resources.

From the article;
Last month, N.D. regulators said North Dakota could surpass California as soon as early 2012 but it probably wouldn’t surpass Alaska until 2013.

I’ve been hearing about this humongous job boom centered around this new oil business (and also in other shale oil/gas areas like Eagle Ford in Texas). But when I try to actually look up jobs, well if I was a truck driver I’d be in a pot of jam. But what does some lowly IT guy do? It seems they never heard of computers up there, from the job ads. I can’t believe there is not a lot of IT activity around this.

“Columbia?” All that once-great university produces today is leftist snake oil. Maybe the person quoted is confusing Colombia with Venezuela.

Sounds likely to me. Columbia is an old fashioned poetic name for the United States, harking back to Christopher Columbus. (E.g. “O Columbia the Gem of the Ocean”) And Colombia hardly produces any oil at all. Venezuela does. If the US can saw off the most geopolitically troublesome oil producers, it greatly helps.

Colombia has a healthy growing oil business mostly in the jungle areas.

You can see the writing on the wall.
Perhaps the time has come to consider being a truck driver for a few years. Perhaps truck driver can be the path to something new but not totally different from what you have been doing.
Perhaps there is opportunity on the plains
