After briefly reacquiring constitutional principles Republicans have been hijacked again by Neo Cons who seemingly believe our mighty military hammer makes every need a nail. Surely there’s someone left on the Right still valuing limited government.
Much attention has rightfully fixated on the recent spate of recess appointments by President Obama. Americans should jealously guard our Constitution, which is a charter meant to prevent political abuses. But very little ink has spilled regarding the Administration’s newly codified authority to suspend certain liberties enshrined in the Bill of Rights.
Defense is one of the few legitimate federal functions. The military may be government’s most effective endeavor. Nonetheless, we do not want our streets subject to martial law; one of the “long train of abuses” precipitating our Declaration of Independence.
Under the National Defense Authorization Act, the military may incarcerate U.S. citizens indefinitely without formal charges. Should the Justice Department declare you a terrorist, or simply associate you with terrorists, your rights may be abridged. Instead of innocent until proven guilty, citizens deemed guilty will be unable to prove innocence.
Despite Obama’s veto threats and publicly prattling about “reservations,” Senator Carl Levin (D, MI) claims the administration privately pushed for the enactment of several of the most frightening provisions embedded in this legislation. Apparently the White House specifically sought that American citizens, even those detained domestically, can at government’s discretion, be indefinitely incarcerated without recourse to a speedy trial.
American citizens can now be treated in the same manner as foreign combatants captured overseas.

Mitt is a long way from the perfect candidate but he is no Obama. Not even Jimmy Carter is another Obama.
Sit it out and it’s the end of everything, you might as well turn in your guns and cancel your internet because you ain’t gonna’ be reading Free Republic anymore if Barry wins.

I’m just echoing what a lot of Freepers are writing. You would think Mitt was every socialist dictator wrapped into one anti-christian cultist package and we need to make sure he’ll never win because he would be left of FDR.
It’s maddening to see us on the right act WORSE than the left. The future of our republic is riding on this election and I’m willing to take a chance on a guy that is closer to my point of view and lightyears to the right of this president.
Newsflash, Ronald Reagan ain’t walking through that door and the cloning process will take 40 years to yield another so until then, we still need to protect the republic.

Especially suspicious characters like veterans, Republicans, constitutionalists, conservatives, and eeeeevillll rabble-rousers like Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin.
Concentrate them all and forget it. Go for the barbed-wire solution.

There are those like Bernie Sanders who I strongly disagree with, but at least by opposing this bill we know he actually believes what it is he says he believes. For all the RINOs and Dems out there, well, they've proved exactly why politicians cannot be trusted with so much power.
The definition of “terrorism” is Very vague. The government has already convicted some guy who was minting gold coins of “terrorism.” Now, he may be misguided as to counterfeiting law, but I really don’t see how minting real gold, which has value, can be terrorism. Heck, Goldman-Sachs debased our currency a lot more than some poor guy who is minting gold. In fact, the government and local police are using terrorism for all sorts of unrelated cases. DHS regards people who store more than seven days worth of food as potential terror threats, among others, like injured veterans and people who have waterproof ammunition. And I have a feeling that any “protestors” will be added to that list very soon.
Since the document below talks about abolishing the government, it is a terrorist and seditious document under the new NDAA law. It must be stricken from the history books and never repeated under pain of being “disappeared” by the military for indefinite detention:

No one can be trusted with such a power.
The power to make anyone who disagrees with you disappear (for good reasons, of course) is a heady power indeed. Not one of the Founding Fathers thought there should be such a power, which is why there is such a thing as Habeus Corpus, which Obama just spat upon. As a so-called Constitutional lawyer, he doesn’t even have the excuse of ignorance that most of our dimwit Congress has.
