MARINE ON ST. CROIX — Shawn Lawrence Otto thinks many of the world's problems - especially its political problems - can be attributed to a lack of scientific rationale. Potentially harmful myths he identified: global warming is a concocted idea, vaccines cause autism and cell phones cause brain cancer. Such beliefs are what spurred the 48-year-old Marine-based screenwriter and blogger to complete his latest writing project, a nonfiction book published in October called "Fool Me Twice: Fighting the Assault of Science in America" (Rodale Press Inc.). The tome started last year is targeted toward a general audience. He's now in the process of making promotional appearances across the U.S. and is a frequent speaker

TOPICS: Government; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections; US: Minnesota
KEYWORDS: agw; book; cooling; doom; science; warming
....anyone who doubts manmade AGW is obviously "anti-science" and a flat-Earther. this local community rag has been really pushing this lately. Every week they have some story about how global warming is going to kill us all. (FWIW, the author is spouse of a prominent, elected, Minnesota democrat and the editor printing this a big Obama fan.)

How about admit that scientifically abortion is the murder of a human life and that scientifically homosexuality is a corruption of the purpose of sexuality and is dangerous and harmful to the human race.

It is the left-wing that is extreme anti-science and anti-technology as well being that they would have us banish the majority of technology and to go back living as natives in grass huts (except for of course the left-wing political elites who are worthy of modern technology, it is only us unwashed masses that must live in huts).

The earth is the center of the universe and the sun revolves around the earth. Embrace science.

In the tradition of Karl Marx, politics have corrupted science. If I see another study on the harmful effects of tobacco smoke, or the benefits of marijuana smoke, or the benefits of abortion, I’m gonna shoot my computer monitor. When some scientists decided it was their moral duty to distort and invent their findings to serve some higher, ‘noble’ social purpose, they lost me.

“Science” and some scientific conclusions have been shown
to be incorrect after further knowledge was acquired that
it is very difficult to accept it as the only way to all truth.
Perhaps the author of the book needs to embrace reality also
and realize that most people don’t have the rigor to
think in a long term critical way. And much of individual
peoples action have an “irrational” component to it.
A coupla books to peruse on the ways of science would be
Kuhns Structure of Scientific revolutions, and a book
called “13 things that don’t make sense”....

"We're at an unusual time in the U.S. when people are taking really irrational public policy positions," Otto explained of his motivation. "We're not going to keep moving foward unless we're engaging in reality, and we're not going to have good public policy unless it's based on knowledge."

like printing more money that is unable to be paid back so we can "help our economy"?

like giving foreign aid to countries who hate us & where the money will be squandered?

like funding the UN and renting them cheap, prime real estate so they can undermine freedom at every turn?

like blocking access to our own abundant, cheap energy so we can give millions in "stimulus" money to failed "green" companies?

like those brilliant public policies, Larry?

And don’t forget the biggest lie in the green movement, which is that only capitalist democracies pollute; left-wing dictatorships don’t. Ony the U.S. abuses human rights; the old USSR, China, North Korea and Cuba don’t. If global warming is real, the green movement has totally discredited the proof with their insanity.

“Potentially harmful myths he identified: global warming is a concocted idea”

Global warming or man made global warming?
