(CNN) -- A Mississippi judge Wednesday evening issued a temporary injunction forbidding the release of any more prisoners pardoned by outgoing Gov. Haley Barbour.

Five convicted murderers were released Sunday, officials said.

"We have ordered that they report to the Department of Corrections' said Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood. "It's a slap in the face to everyone in law enforcement and Gov. Barbour should be ashamed," he said.

A court hearing on the matter will be held Monday.

Hood said Barbour violated Mississippi's Constitution because the pardon requests for some inmates were not published 30 days in advance, as required, according to affiliate WAPT.

I wonder what the Gov’s motivation was for his actions, pardoning criminals? Any logical answers???

Got to be a lot of money, because with these pardons, Barbour has ended any future political aspirations he has.

Haley never should have composed this list while he was blitzed. This time, thank the Lord a judge is taking a rational look at this fiasco.

Logical? Absolutely not. It would be interesting if anyone could shed light on Barbour’s reasoning but as I said on another thread, nothing could justify these actions.

The Illinois governor rolled back the death penalty when he knew he was going to jail didn't he? Could there be something coming down the road for this guy?

They were recommended to him by wardens- or through some such process.
That’s how they got the jobs at the state’s Goveronor’s Mansion.
He took a look at them there and agreed and acted.

The pardons went to individuals who has served as cleaning and staff in the Gov.’s Mansion for 8 years.
It is customary to pardon trustee’s who distinguished themselves in this way. The CNN story omits how many past Governors have done the exact same thing.

Judicial activism.

Look, I don’t like the pardons.

But governors have that power. He exercised it. End of story. The legislature might wish to investigate — the judge for judicial overreach. You are keeping a man’s freedom from him in an extra-constitutional manner. Like it or not, he was pardoned!

I used to get my hackles up when people called the Republicans the “Stupid Party”.

I used to think Barbour was a good guy with a future in the GOP.

No more to either assumption.

4 Murderers being sprung. If there’s ONE REASON to have an EFFECTIVE death penalty is to make that number as low as possible...maybe three, maybe two, maybe one, maybe all would have been executed before a psycho-governor (or judge, for that matter) could release them into society to do more carnage.

Old tradition, that’s all.

Massive SNAFU! Glad the judge got involved. Trustees should never be murderers.

Logic does not seem to be involved here. Bribery, retribution, perhaps dementia even are guesses. This is very illogical and illegal. The politicians all seem to be losing their heads and their swelled egos may have driven them into the madness dictators experience. And Obama is one of the many nuts of the political persuasion.

I hope the judge does have jurisdiction and throws those scumbags back in jail- along with Barbor, too!

Hmmmm. I seem to recall Cornelia Wallace saying something about the murderers being the best trustee staff, now that you mention it.

The trustees at the Mansion are not required to be there for 8 years. Usually 2-4 years is the norm. They go through an extensive screening process by the DOC prior to being assigned to the Mansion and it is known that they will be released in some way (clemency, pardon, suspension of sentence) unless they screw up. I have never known of anyone that was sent back to prison...but it could have happened.

This practice has been going on for at least 50+ years that I am aware of and probably longer than that.

With that said, I do not agree with the release of violent criminals, serving either in the Mansion or in prison!
