Texas leads U.S. in greenhouse gas emissions

As the nation's light switch and gas pump, Texas releases far more greenhouse gases into the air than any other state, according to federal data released Wednesday.

Texas' coal-fired power plants and oil refineries generated 294 million tons of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases in 2010, more than the next two states - Pennsylvania and Florida - combined, the data shows.

The Environmental Protection Agency released the data by industrial facility for the first time as part of a broader effort to reduce emissions linked to global warming.

The agency collected data from more than 6,700 industrial facilities that release at least 25,000 tons of greenhouse gases into the air a year. The threshold is comparable to the emissions from burning 131 railcars of coal, the EPA said.

While industry-heavy Texas' ranking did not surprise, environmental groups said data shows the need for federal regulation of greenhouse gases. The EPA said new rules for emissions of heat-trapping gases from power plants and other major sources could be released by the end of the month.

"It highlights the need to take action, especially considering the extreme weather we have seen lately," said Luke Metzger, director of Environment Texas, an advocacy group.

You see the impact of these stats used even on speed limits in metro areas in an effort to supposedly reduce emissions. An example is the 17 DFW/Houston area counties that have a mandated 5 mph reduction in the normal 70 & 65 speed limits.

Since the most prominent “greenhouse gas” in the atmosphere is water vapor, is this a bad thing, or is this just silly nonsense?

Jobs in the Eagle Ford Shale aren’t slowing down, either. Hey, everybody: if you’re willing to work and pull your weight, come on down to Texas!

The combination of hubris and foolishness among these people is staggering.

And if they asked the average Texan, they’d quickly find out three things:

A) That 99.999999% (or more) of Texans don’t give two hoots in Hell about what some enviro-whacko thinks.
B) That they are really glad that they have the coal-fired plants and oil industry, because they mean JOBS, and a decentl standard of living for so many.
C)That if anyone tries to screw with those, they’re gonna have a humdinger of a fight on their hands.

Obama hates the people of this state for not voting for him.

You got that right.

Narcissists are hateful, and have no empathy.

Remember when he joked about half the state being on fire?

He JOKED about our tragedies...

grrr. can’t say what’s in my mind...

Way down in the data it says the refineries produce 13% of emissions in state - what percent comes from autos? The data has no compared to what? If we have twice as many power plants, and refineries, as Calif how come our air is cleaner!!!
