Magazine editorial reveals shocking disparity between sizes of models and real women

A size 6 is now plus size in the fashion world, and most runway models meet the physical criteria for anorexia, according to a report that offers shocking insight into the disparity between models and the real-life women they are purporting to represent.

In the January issue of PLUS Model Magazine, plus size model Katya Zharkova and a straight size model are seen in the nude in an attempt to “open the minds of the fashion industry," which is stepping further away from reality, according to PLUS founder and editor-in-chief, Madeline Figueroa Jones.

The magazine reveals that some of today’s plus size models are wearing the same size as models Christie Brinkley, Paulina Porizkova and Cindy Crawford at the height of their fame in the 1990s. Zharkova, 28, wears a size 14

“Twenty years ago the average fashion model weighed 8 percent less than the average woman. Today she weighs 23 percent less”

More like women have gotten fatter, not that models have gotten skinnier. We used to joke about “Muffin Tops” in the 90’s but now women, and men, are simply obese.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think if you go back to the 1950s and 1940s, you will find that the models and movie stars actually weighed MORE than the average single woman on the street. People used to be very skinny by today’s standards.
Tell me about it. I held up the size 6 skirt (I really liked it, so I didn’t care what size it was - it fit) against a size 10 skirt I’ve had since the 80s and they were the same size.
Tell her to shop on ebay. It’s a terrible place for sellers but paradise for buyers. Their vintage category is pure joy. And even the new merchandise has lots to offer to petites, just make sure you don’t mistake a vintage 2 for a modern 2.
Big girls are like mopeds they are a lot of fun to ride as long as your friends don’t see you.
Haha
Last friday my date made me watch a runway model show. I noticed the same thing. They were all pigeon toed with knobby knees and many had overly large facial bones. I don’t get it either.
They have changed the dress sizes too. Used to be a size 4 was an extremely skinny woman, and a size 6 was about as thin as you could get and still have breasts. Nowdays a size 6 is a chubby little piggy.
I totally agree with you about how they have changed the dress sizes, but totally disagree with you about what sizes were and now are.
I'm 5'10 and 115-125# and have always wore a 10. As I explained in another post, I now wear a 6, which compared to an older 10 is practically identical.
I don't consider myself a chubby little piggy by any stretch of the imagination.
“I also don’t believe for one moment that Cindy Crawford, or any of the other models listed was ever a size 14.”
I met Kathy Ireland years back. She was always listed as the “short chubby model”, yet, she is tall and very thin. If you see her next to other models she does appear “thicker” than them. Models have always been very thin, and I don’t think they are any thinner.
I work with a woman that is built like a runway model and is a ballerina. She is 110 pounds and 5’8”. Very thin, yet, even she would look fat next to most models.
That is an excellent point. Marilyn Monroe was chubby as were many of the starlets of the time. My favorite woman is a full figured gal, not fat, but curvy. Thinner women can be very attractive but I’ve always found a woman with an adult figure versus a pubescent figure was hot.
I think obesity is a far greater problem in the US than skinny models. Despite feminists best efforts at indoctrination, men just don't want to hook up with fatties.
