Former Private Jessica Lynch:Why She Had to Set the Record Straight About Government’s False Story
Fox News ^ | 1-12-12 | Staff

Posted on 01/12/2012 7:07:02 PM PST by wardaddy

About 9 years ago, enemy fighters in Iraq captured then-19-year-old former Private First Class Jessica Lynch in a deadly ambush on the truck that she was driving. Eleven soldiers died in the attack, including one of Lynch’s closest friends.

Later, Special Forces rescued Lynch from an Iraqi hospital and initial government reports portrayed her as a hero who went down fighting, claims which Lynch denied, saying that she didn’t shoot a single round in the attack.

Today, Lynch joined Shepard Smith to talk about being in captivity, how she got the strength to call out the government on the false story presented about her, and whether, in the end, the Iraq War was worth it.

Of the attack, Lynch said she woke up about three hours after the ambush and knew immediately that something was wrong. She said, “I woke up and all I could see was Iraqis standing all around me, looking down upon me. I knew at that moment something terrible had happened and I wasn’t in the right place.”

Myself and others here voiced questions about the media and government's veracity in this sad affair and felt she was manipulated for women in combat effect.

We were pretty much shouted down here as sexist bigots.

Well..from her own mouth.

She was not John Wayne....bless her heart..she was just a child.

The military and media have a steady history of hyping women's success in the combat theatre for their own ends.

This lie was rather blatant.

It all comes back to what a serious former Spec Ops freeper here said 10 years ago:

"Any country sends it's mothers, daughters, wives and girlfriends off to fight wars while many of the men sit home playing video games on the couch smoking pot is not a nation that will endure for long"

****TITLE AMENDED FOR LENGTH

She was there, she got captured and worse. Whether she shot anyone or not doesn’t interest me at all. She served and paid a price. Nothing else matters.

I was one of those who said folks like you were being sexist, and I apologize to you and anybody else I tangled with.

At the time, I didn't think the Bush administration would try and spin the story the way they did.

RIP Pat, you are missed every damned day.

One problem.

It wasn’t the government that came up with the story. It was a media fueled rumor. I remember Dan Abrams on MSNBC (I didn’t have FOX then) explaining how “sometimes these things happen”. There may have been military people involved in the story but none who would have known anything.

Exactly, and that piggie Napolitano made it worse with the Piestewa thing. It’s been Squaw Peak to me for 50 years. It still is.

The question I ask: Is Shepard Smith worth the money he is paid?

I know what my answer would be if I were Rupert Murdoch.

I don’t think the Bush admin or the Pentagon “spun” the story one way or the other. It was the press that initially built up the story— out of some very foggy facts. It made for great TV and they really, really wanted that story.

Exactly right. When one sorts through all the BS to get back to “who started this meme?” we arrive back at the Washington Post:

Good for you to admit the mistake. Far too many wouldn't.

We are lied to every day by the government.

I have no doubt the truth about Bin Laden will come out and we will find out Zero had nothing to do with it because the old bass-terd was dead before zero was a senator.

Michael Getler, the Post's ombudsman--and arguably its harshest critic--says the April story was "based on pretty flimsy sourcing," much of it anonymous, and "should have been written more cautiously."

Ta Dah!

Just wait until the "gays in combat" stories are written.

Lynch has described her actions as never firing, and huddling down screaming and crying in the Humvee as the Sergeant who was the elements leader was in the passenger seat trying to fix her weapon command, trying to keep the driver calm and trying to deal with Jessica’s screeching, and the two males they had picked up were trying to bring weapons to bear in the back ( a SAW I think) and Lori wrecked the Humvee killing or wounding them all.

There were some real heroes that day, I think one of them was executed after an incredible one man battle, one guy took out a Mortar team by himself.

Your first impulse was right. It was the Washington Post that pushed this story not the DOD.

Exactly. The left, along with their willing co-conspirators in the lamestream press spun, exaggerated, fabricated, and outright lied in order to make the conflict “acceptable”.

Just as GW wouldn’t defend himself and his administration against the personal slanders, he was loathe to take them to task over their lies here either.
