The campaign learned of the endorsement from the influential Christian conservatives Thursday night, one source said. That person told TheDC that the campaign is “very encouraged” by it. (RELATED: Full coverage of Newt Gingrich’s campaign)

LaHaye’s “Left Behind” series sold more than 63 million books. It’s the bestselling Christian fiction series in history, according to its website.

You obviously don't know much about LaHaye's beliefs about Catholics.

Evangelical is used a lot, even some Catholics are Evangelical, I just wished that everyone voted like what most of us think of when we describe someone as Evangelical.

Heck, I’m not doing it. Whenever you don’t have a core set of beliefs that define a sect of Christianity it lends itself to different interpretations including a progressive impulse. So that Evangelical Lutherans now have their own camps. The problem with La Haye is that his own rapture theory is beyond “nutty” to the point that “true” Evangelicals finds him an embarrassment. The same goes for prosperity gospel merchant, Joel Osteen. We saw how Rick Warren has gone too.

Hitler-Catholic...

Correction: Hitler-excommunicated former Catholic

All Nazis were excommunicated by the conference of German Bishops prior to Hitler becoming chancellor.

bramps-ignorant

That's part of a well documented pattern here.

Would you say that the ‘core set of beliefs’ followed by the Catholic hierarchy includes the belief that if a priest has a ‘progressive impulse’ to rape a little boy, the appropriate action is to pass the priest on to a fresh batch of victims?

“Baloney. I’m a Catholic, and I support Newt. I don’t regard my evangelical brothers and sisters in Christ as “nuts.” Christians and Christianity are under attack the whole world over, and I stand with them, whether they be Protestant, Orthodox or Catholic.

Fortunately, most Catholics are not as bigoted as you appear to be”

Thanks for that, brother in Christ, Josh Painter. From a Protestant, Jesus and His church body-loving and serving “nut.” Oh yes, Go Newt. Our prayers and funds are with you.

So since you disagree with their doctrines you want them to vote for whom, exactly?

You confuse sin with core beliefs. Try reading the Nicene Creed.

Thank you for saying that Painter.

Steelhead, you make my blood boil. LaHaye is not a nut! I know many people who have come to Christ reading his books. He, as do MANY, truly believe EVERY last word of the Bible and do believe in a second coming. His books are his interpretation of how that MIGHT happen. But to the tee according to his interpretation, or not, Jesus is coming again. The more people that are ready the better. You should rejoice in that.

I was painting with the same absurd broadbrush that Steelfish used when knocking all Evangelicals by lumpimg them in with frauds like Rev. Wright, etc. Did you feel a breeze when the point passed over your head?

Newt or Santorum is fine with me. The point that was being made is that an endorsement by a “nutty” group of one candidate could be the kiss of death. What do you think it would do to Mitt if he embraces an endorsement by a polygamist sect of Mormons?

This isn't a mainstream endorsement.

But honestly Catholics are going to vote for Obama anyway so it doesn't matter.

Thanks A.A.C
So much for this notion of “true” Evangelicals.

The following from your reference.

“In 1987 Jack Kemp named Tim LaHaye as national co-chair of his presidential campaign, but LaHaye resigned days later when newspapers published anti-Catholic and anti-Semitic remarks he had made. These included references to Catholicism as “a false religion” and to Jews being responsible for the death of Christ. Subsequently it came to light that, during the 1970s, LaHaye’s church had funded Mission to Catholics, a virulently anti-Catholic ministry run by former Carmelite priest Bart Brewer.

Scandal continued to dog LaHaye when it was revealed that he had connections with the Unification Church (”the Moonies”). The head of the Unification Church is Sun Myung Moon, who has proclaimed himself “the world’s new Messiah” and “the Lord of the Second Advent.” LaHaye was the chair of Moon’s Coalition for Religious Freedom, and is reported to have received at least half a million dollars in funding from Moon’s associate Bo Hi Park. LaHaye and his wife have attended and spoken at Moon-sponsored events, though they have made it clear that they do not endorse Moon’s theological ideas.

LaHaye’s association with Sun Myung Moon is especially perplexing. As a man who has written so many books warning people about the Antichrist, LaHaye is one of the last people one would expect to ally with a man who literally is a false Christ.”

Don’t be so sure of that. Obama now has an anti-Catholic record where Churches have been forced to close because of gay adoption policies foisted by the Obama Marxists and secularists.

Perhaps you just may find someone like you who cannot point to the difference between the sin of heresy espoused by nutty evangelicals about “Rapture” and the fallen sinner.

One thing I definitely have not come across is the Christian book that espouses being an antagonistic jerk.
Maybe you have the only one. You have a good night now.
