Romney gets a faith question in SC

Mitt Romney, one of two Mormon candidates in the Republican presidential field, was pressed about his faith by a woman who attended his veteran's event here.

He was asked to expand on his faith by a woman who asked him: "Do you believe in the divine saving grace of Jesus Christ?"

"Yes, I do," Romney responded. "I would hope that there are people in our nation that have different beliefs. There are people of the Jewish faith and the Islamic faith and other faiths who believe other things, and our president will be president of the people of all faiths," he said.

"We welcome people of other faiths. I happen to believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and my savior, but I know other people have differing views and I respect those views, and I don't believe those qualify or disqualify people for leadership in our nation," he said.

"Some of these people here would rather die than ever admit that they might be wrong about anything. Don’t worry about it."

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm not worried about it, I can see there is a lot of single track motivations here. But given the audience reaction to that question in SC, it seems to me we'd be better served not pitting this into such a religious divide.

I don't know what the dynamics of that event were, if it was just packed with Mormons (which I doubt), or a more even slice of SC voters. I just think conservatives need to be careful which basket they place all their eggs into.

Rush sold out last election too. Then he got a BIG raise. Took me a while to listen to him after that. Now, there he goes again. Guess that’s capitalism. Wonder if he get’s another raise.

Rush has ALWAYS said that it’s not his job to win elections, but to do the best radio show he can.....and having Obama and Clinton as foils certainly helps....Rush’s ratings were down when Bush was President.

I can't get past this: Islam, founded by a man who said he was visited by an Angel(Gabriel) and established a religion based on that visit and wrote a book(The Koran). Mormanism founded by a man who said he was visited by God the Father himself and the Son Jesus Christ and established an religion based on that visit and wrote a book(The Book of Mormon).

Forgive me, but I will stay with the religion founded by the Son of God himself and follow the book written by his disciples.

Too bad this woman let Willard the Liar get by with his total BS answer on Mormanism.

If she had known anything about Mormanism she would have
immediately asked Romney about all the strange teachings of the faith and asked him why the Bible is not good enough for Mormans. Why do they have the Book of Morman? She would have also asked him why Mormans do not believe in the Holy Trinity. She would have also asked him why he stayed in the most racist faith in the United States his entire life and indeed was a high member of that racist church for the majority of his life.

This woman was a plant, working for the Romney campaign. No one would have let him lie through his teeth and answer the question like he’s a good ole boy born again evangelical that stays at church all day on Sunday. The fake and fraud hypocritical liar makes me sick to my stomach.

He lied. Mormons believe in salvation by works, not grace. However they redefine ‘grace’, ‘salvation’ and even heaven so unsuspecting Christians give them a pass.

If pressed, he would have backed himself into a corner.

I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if the lady asking the question was a Romneybot and the question was asked in a very pro-Romney audience.

I believe you are right. Get this out in the open now, let him answer some soft questions, and move on. Giving him a Pass.

Later when this subject comes up and it will, he and the willing media will get to say "he has answered the questions", NEXT.

As Reaganaut said:Romney was not pressed on the subject, and I doubt if any but card carrying Mormons are allowed in his rallies.

How many Mormons are there in South Carolina? I don’t think there’s evidence of bussing them in. Again, we need to be careful in defining what is going on.

How many mormons in S.C.?? Who knows.

And there is nothing to say those rallies are not packed with card carrying mormons only, who can travel just the same as the paul nuts.

I wish Reaganaut could get into one of those rallies and pose a solid question to him. He would be peeing in his pants.

I can’t believe the rallies are just Mormons. There are way too many of them, with multiple daily stops all over multiple states, leapfrogging back and forth with the early primary states.

If, God forbid, this fraud succeeds in becomind the Republican nominee, you'll see plenty of questions like you post from the Obama plants that will show up at Romney campaign events. Just wait.

Interestingly, Romney’s response never mentioned his Mormonism.

He got the memo...

Office of First President & Living Prophet

November 1st, 2011

The message for this month is -

...to stay on our mantra: We ARE Christians!!

We've been taking a beating on the Internet - especially from those hateful ANTIs on FreeRepublic!

We MUST keep the media constantly informed of those things the world considers christian.

We must NOT allow our MORMONness to show thru, as it has gotten a really bad rap thru history - lord only knows why...

Mormonism = created Jesus, not eternally God, who later became a polygamist, performed works and became one of the 4 Mormon Earth Gods:

(click)
Praise to the Man!

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Praise to his mem'ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assasins,
Plead unto heav'n while the earth lauds his fame.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know 'Brother Joseph' again.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

"Yes, I do," Romney responded. "I would hope that there are people in our nation that have different beliefs. There are people of the Jewish faith and the Islamic faith and other faiths who believe other things, and our president will be president of the people of all faiths," he said.

Like all of our resident FR MORMONs; Mitt conveniently leaves stuff out:

"He (Joseph Smith) is the man through whom God has spoken... yet I would not like to call him a savior, though in a certain capacity he was a god to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be."
 - Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:321

"You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a god..."
- Herber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:88

"If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]"
- (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)

There is "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God"
- Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

"I tell you, Joseph holds the keys, and none of us can get into the celestial kingdom without passing by him. We have not got rid of him, but he stands there as the sentinel, holding the keys of the kingdom of God; and there are many of them beside him. I tell you, if we get past those who have mingled with us, and know us best, and have a right to know us best, probably we can pass all other sentinels as far as it is necessary, or as far as we may desire. But I tell you, the pinch will be with those that have mingled with us, stood next to us, weighed our spirits, tried us, and proven us: there will be a pinch, in my view, to get past them. The others, perhaps, will say, If brother Joseph is satisfied with you, you may pass. If it is all right with him, it is all right with me. Then if Joseph shall say to a man, or if brother Brigham say to a man, I forgive you your sins, "Whosoever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them;" if you who have suffered and felt the weight of transgression—if you have generosity enough to forgive the sinner, I will forgive him: you cannot have more generosity than I have. I have given you power to forgive sins, and when the Lord gives a gift, he does not take it back again."
 - Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p.154-155

"It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men.... If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation,"
 - Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670

They succeeded in killing Joseph, but he had finished his work.
He was a servant of God, and gave us the Book of Mormon.
He said the Bible was right in the main, but, through the translators and others, many precious portions were suppressed, and several other portions were wrongly translated; and now his testimony is in force, for he has sealed it with his blood.
As I have frequently told them, no man in this dispensation will enter the courts of heaven, without the approbation of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jun.
Who has made this so?
Have I?
Have this people?
Have the world?
No; but the Lord Jehovah has decreed it.
If I ever pass into the heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of the Prophet Joseph.
If you ever pass through the gates into the Holy City, you will do so upon his certificate that you are worthy to pass.
Can you pass without his inspection?
No; neither can any person in this dispensation, which is the dispensation of the fulness of times.
In this generation, and in all the generations that are to come, everyone will have to undergo the scrutiny of this Prophet.
They say that they killed Joseph, and they will yet come with their hats under their arms and bend to him; but what good will it do them, unless they repent?
They can come in a certain way and find favor, but will they?
 Brigham Young,

--JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, vol. 8, p. 224

On another occasion Brigham Young made this chilling statement regarding a person's obligation to spill the blood of those who committed serious sins:

Mr. Young is on RECORD for saying a LOT of things!

"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;

and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,

and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.

Brigham Young - JoD 3:266 (July 14, 1855)
