Former Perry S.C. Supporter Switches Endorsement to Santorum (South Carolina GOP leader)
American Spectator ^ | 1.14.12 | ROBERT STACY MCCAIN

Posted on 01/14/2012 1:01:36 PM PST by Qbert

South Carolina GOP leader Patrick Haddon, who formerly supported Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the 2012 presidential primary, yesterday announced his endorsement of Rick Santorum.

"After looking at all the candidates and their political careers, and looking for a true conservative that has been fighting for real Republican causes, there is only one candidate that has been a consistent conservative fighting [for] family values and supporting pro-life issues," said Haddon, former chairman of the Greenville County GOP. "That is why Shelly and I are proud to endorse Senator Rick Santorum for President of the United States."

Haddon's endorsement of Santorum was at least the second defection from Perry's South Carolina campaign this week. Spartanburg businessman Barry Wynn switched his endorsement to Mitt Romney, after denouncing Perry's "destructive" attacks on Romney's business record at Bain Capital.

"Santorum can’t even support right-to-work laws."

Right to work is a state issue, and what somebody did as a Senator of a blue collar state isn't necessarily relevant to the actions of a President on a Federal level.

People make concessions sometimes in order to get re-elected- I don't think any of us like it, but that's the way it is. Perry made concessions in regards to illegals in Texas, did he not? (I was strongly opposed to those, too). And Newt- well, Newt went off the rails and sat down on the couch with Nancy, even though he had no reason to...

I'm listening to Santorum's SC Prez Forum speech right now, and he's really boring. Sounds worse when he tries to be enthusiastic… this guy can't communicate the message effectively. Please drop out Santorum, argh.

He would certainly try, but it’s pretty hard for a groundskeeper to attack the potential new hire, when the grass is all dead.

Santorum will appeal to many U. S. Citizens. I think he might surprise you.

I’m sorry, but we’ve been down this road before. Santorum reminds me so much of Jimmy Carter. Everybody loved him because he was such a nice Christian man. No thanks.

Recovering from back surgery, long days of campaigning, maybe on painkillers, none of this confirmed...

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

Sure hope he’s guaranteed to have perfect health if elected to office. I can only imagine the excuses then, and at what cost.

And Newt wasn’t? What did Newt do to stem the tide? Nothing.

Why didn’t Newt produce a balanced budget when he was House Majority leader? The debt went up every single year under his tenure.

EVERY YEAR! He has zero credibility on this issue. At least Rick has a plan. Newt’s plan will be to reach around the aisle.

On the contrary. I believe that Rick is the best conservative out there. That’s been my support since day one.

If conservatives rush for the aisles to get behind Newt, they are going to be gravely disappointed.

“Rick S. cannot stand up to Obama.”

Did you believe he could win Iowa? I sure didn’t. I’m convinced that Santorum can win, and that he’s our best chance.

Perry has the family values record to go with the promises

OK, I was taking a little shot at Perry there. Whom I have not ruled out voting for btw.
Anyhow, I think most here on FR are united with the goal of knocking Romneycrat out of the lead.
So, I will lay off any attacks except Rombama and occassionally Paul (but not his supporters)
Other than to say I was under medicated for the pain I under went and it was not fun.

Yesterday I saw a woman wearing the following garment:

A black zippered sweatshirt.

Front logo, in green, gold and white: image (as on U.S. paper currency) with picture of BO’s face.

Back logo, also in green and gold and white: “[BO] King of All African Americans”

Worn by a black woman, middle-aged or older, not wealthy looking. Spotted at a fast-food restaurant in North Oakland, California.

What is Santorum’s opinion of the “Right to Work” law and didn’t he say he wanted to slash Social Security “now” in the last debate? That is a losing statement.

Day one? Lol, you were an avid Herman Cain supporter before.

If conservatives rush for the aisles to get behind Newt, they are going to be gravely disappointed.

Sorry, but Newt's got the right credentials, philosophy, and communication skills to do what's necessary.

Santorum is lacking in all three departments as far as I can tell—especially the communication one. I just listened to him at the SC Prez Forum, and this guy can't give a compelling speech to save his life.

Santorum's family life might be idyllic to some folks, but I don't care. I want a leader who can save this country—that's Newt.

I would encourage anybody who's on the fence about supporting Newt or Santorum, to watch the the two of them speaking back to back here.

I would have preferred to have Sarah Palin as the Republican presidential nominee in 2012 but we do not have that choice so we have to take the cards we're dealt. Although both Gingrich and Santorum have definite minuses, I can support Santorum, especially if the choice is between Rick and RINO Romney. This carping about Santorum's sweater vests and so on is ridiculous and similar to the nattering on FR last year about the tone of Sarah Palin's voice or other such trivialities. We can find plenty to criticize about every single candidate but while a few may find that personally rewarding, we end up with Romney walking off and smirking, with the nomination while we sit at our keyboards and bicker about who did what in 1998 or how macho 'our' candidate is and only he can possibly defeat Obama (as if Obama, with his dismal record in office is somehow invincible) all to no real advantage. If I have to chose a less-than-'perfect' conservative candidate and it's a choice between Romney, Gingrich, Perry or Santorum...I'll take Santorum.

Well for starters, Newt supported Hillarycare...

That's false. Newt did not support Hillarycare,

... and has pushed for the individual mandate.

Newt was never for an individual mandate combined with a single payer a.k.a government run healthcare. That's the difference between Obama's individual mandates and what Newt wanted. Beyond that, the bigger problem is not so much mandated health insurance. The problem is mandated health treatment. You and I must pay for it while the dead beats, without insurance, get their healthcare treatment for free, mandated of course by the government.

Which of course brings up the mandated Percription Drug Plan that Santorum voted for, that you and I must pay for, that is far worse than what Newt wanted.
