You are correct; I was thinking of the bailouts, not TARP! Can’t edit afterwards, though. LOL

“If we unify behind Santorum, it will force Romney to pick him as his running mate - for he’ll know that’s the only way to get our support in the general (election in November).”

No one at that meeting said that. You are quoting a VERY biased Rick Perry report. Who are they quoting? Like I said that is a lie. And you should be busted for perpetrating it.

It is all well and good that you support Governor Perry (he is a good man)....but don’t quote lies to tear down another candidate. By the way, I’m a Newt supporter and a conservative evangelical. I guarantee that group DID NOT meet for the purpose of picking someone to be the Vice President for Romney....that is a ludicrous lie.

"It wasn’t LGF saying Risk said this, it was Rick using those words."

CBS also claims that he said, "I don't want to make black people's lives better...". Only... he never said "black" or anything like it. Just because the MSM says something doesn't necessarily make it so- and LGF is even far less trust-worthy than the MSM.

Even if he did say it, so what? There's a big difference between #OWS style attacks on "vulture capitalism" (whatever that means) and fighting crony capitalism. Some people get that- evidently, others don't...

Take it up with Dr. Jack Wheeler, he is reporting what happened.

“......Santorum has criticized the financial industry as a whole. “

this is very troubling to me - it means conservatives and free market folks have no candidate no matter who gets nominated.

Jack Wheeler was at the meeting he is the author of this article. You can go to his site and find the article. You have to be a paid member to read it but did give The Rick Perry Report exclusive permission to put it on his site. JACK WHEELER'S WEBSITE.

“The “black people” comment is on video. They didn’t make it up:”

Nice try. There is other, un-edited audio that proves that he never said that (this is CBS, after all- you may remember the whole Dan Rather scandal, don’t you):

Wrong Santorum has criticized the anti free market cronyism of tarp. Perry and Newt supported tarp.

I have looked and looked and looked, do you have anything that documents Santorum opposes Bushes bailouts prior to those bailouts being passed? I can’t find anything that backs up that claim. thanks

That is funny, “do you still beat your wife”, he said he opposed them, find a link that shows he supported them. The ones showing newt's and perry's support have been posted here many times. Shocking to see the attempt to drag a good man in to the attacks on free market firms like the ones launched by newt and perry. The TARP wall street firms give billions more dollars to democrats and obummer than they do to republicans.

Wrong, Perry did not support TARP. I have no idea about Newt and there were plenty of good people on both sides of TARP. TARP is different from the bailouts.

You are posting lies about the intent of the group. Your “Jack Wheeler” is canting things to suit his agenda. To falsely accuse the group that meet as being there to pick a VP for Romney is a LIE. If you will listen to J.C. Watts interview, who was there, that the group was not unified on anything except that Romney should not be the GOP nominee. They WERE NOT there to get Santorium, or anyone else, to be a VP for Romney. That is ludicrous. “Jack Wheeler” is just mad becausee they didn’t back his pick of Rick Perry.

The truth is that those who came there in favor of Perry, stayed in favor of Perry, as did those supporting Santorum and Newt. There was no consensus, and it wasn’t an endorsement. This article is so biased as to be libel. It should NOT be quoted.

Your support of Rick Perry is admirable. But, don’t pass off lies as truth and then say well “so and so wrote it.” IF you pass along a lie, that makes you a liar as well.

My dear. You are not listening. I linked and quoted Dr. Jack Wheeler. If you have a beef about what he said, go tell him. Perhaps he will give you more information.

The problem is he wrote the letter and the AP reported his support and he never denied it, until it became a political hot potato. So yes he wrote a letter for tarp. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2779504/posts

You are incorrect.

Gov Rick Perry (then head of the Republican Governors Association) and Gov. Joe Manchin (then head of the Democrat Governors Association) wrote to Speaker Pelosi after TARP failed (Sept 29, 2008) and the markets were faltering, requesting:

[early morning of Oct 1, 2008]: "We strongly urge Congress to leave partisanship at the door and pass an economic recovery package...It is time for Washington, D.C. to step up, be responsible, and do what's in the best interest of American taxpayers and our economy." Letter

To wit, Associated Press headlined the letter: "Governors, Business Up Pressure for Bailout Bill"

Gov. Perry immediately issued a statement to make his position crystal clear to the spinning MSM:

“In a free market economy, government should not be in the business of using taxpayer dollars to bail out corporate America. Congress needs to take off its partisan gloves and work together to bring both short and long term stability to the credit markets. They need to stop blaming each other and start thinking about solutions that put the taxpayers of this country first.” Gov. Perry, Oct 1, 2008

"If we unify behind Santorum, it will force Romney to pick him as his running mate - for he'll know that's the only way to get our support in the general (election in November)."

That's the slimy deal behind this. They'll go for Romney if he goes for Santorum on his ticket. Should we call them Judas Conservatives?

It would be if it was true, but it almost certainly is not. I'd put money on Romney picking a Southerner if I was a gambler (and if Romney gets the nod). Romney needs the south to guarantee a turnout across the south. Otherwise, Romney has no chance in Heck. That is definitely part of his strategy, and probably part of the reason so many Southerners have been encouraged to endorse him early.

Santorum buys Romney nothing. The fact that Santorum is Catholic probably wouldn't help Romney any, either. So, I'd also bet that he picks a Protestant (assuming, again, that Romney gets the nod).

We suspected this all along: Santorum is a stalking horse for Romney. A vote for Santorum is a vote for Romney. Folks in South Carolina need to know this.”…..

Nah. Santorum seems to be actually trying to stay competitive and isn't pulling any punches against Romney. Someone who was guaranteed the VP spot wouldn't be saying what Santorum is saying.
