Perry vows a fight for social conservatives' votes [Obama shows disdain toward military]

AUSTIN - Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Sunday that he is undaunted by his failure to win the backing of leading social conservatives and expressed confidence that he can still rally conservative voters in Saturday's South Carolina primary with his message of job creation and economic recovery.

....Perry was unapologetic about describing front-runner Mitt Romney's business activities as "vulture" capitalism, despite criticism from a number of leading Republicans, who warned that Democrats could exploit Perry's use of the term if Romney becomes the nominee.

Perry said the issue of job creation and Romney's record at Bain Capital is certain to come up in the general election campaign, telling Stephanopoulos that "it's better to be talking about it here in January in South Carolina than it is in September and October with the nominees."

Taliban incident

On another topic, Perry said that possible criminal charges against Marines shown urinating on dead Taliban fighters would be "over the top" although he said they should be reprimanded and appropriately punished for what he called a "dumb" mistake.

"When you're 18 or 19, you do dumb things. These kids made a mistake, there's not any doubt about it," Perry told Crowley.

But he said the Obama administration's possible pursuit of criminal charges shows "disdain" toward the U.S. military.

Newt, Santorum, Romney, Huntsman, and Paul are so modest and have invisible egos.

I am not embarrassed by him, but I am embarrassed by you. I guess you want Romney to be president. If you think for even a second that Gingrich or Santorum have even the slightest chance of becoming president we are living in alternate universes. This isn’t about Perry. This about a msm who destroys anyone with core values who sticks to them. During the last campaign, President Obama lied and if honestly reported messed up and did much worse than Rick Perry has ever done. No matter how he messed up, it was overlooked because he shared their values.

Perry pointed out there are also photos of Paton urinating in the Rhine River and supposedly Churchill did the same thing.

Perry was nicer than I would have been, I wish they had poured pig urine on them.

But Paul is out there in his own separate reality, so I tend to forget about him.

Well, that's just it. Conservatives should be shaking their heads at him and Huntsman, first.

Unless the country’s small band of Perry supporters can quickly persuade the majority of his greatness, all you are doing is giving the nomination to Romney. Perry may be the right person for the job, but he is not going to be the nominee. Sorry.
Right now it has to be Santorum or Gingrich to stop Romney.

Paul is nuts and Perry just doesn’t have the support.

Not bashing him. Just trying to be realistic.

I finally got a chance to watch the Huckabee forum 2. Wow.
Gov Perry Rocked. He was great on all questions and all issues. I hope South Carolinians and the rest of the country have listened to him and vote for him in the primaries and national election. Jobs, energy, tax reform, Christian values. Gov. Perry will be a GREAT POTUS.

I never saw that Straw Poll, and I’m in here every single day. If I had I would have voted for Perry, and I’m too old to be swayed by good looks. This poll was not on the bottom of the sidebar as they all were in 08, or I would have seen it. So where are they hiding the polls, do you know?

This is a bad move on Perry’s part. Social conservatives have more orthodox candidates to choose from... one’s that don’t scare them with the possibility of seeing a federal government too weak to enforce their demands.

Perry should be going after those that see the federal government as an overreaching behemoth, harassing little girls for selling lemonade and then demanding our taxes to pay for it.

Just look at how many voters are so concerned about this that they are actually voting for Ron Paul, despite his lunacy on foreign policy and the military.

Perry could seriously deflate Paul’s bubble by offering a sane version of that future. Plus, it’d also take many voters from Gingrinch. And that is possibly enough to overtake Romney.

I only knew about the FR poll because someone pinged me.

Perhaps it would have been a good idea to leave it up for 3 days and HIGHLIGHTED on threads and at the top of the page — like the fundraising bannner.

Not enough true RED WHITE and BLUE history is taught.

It’s sanitized to be PC and it makes us sitting targets.
