Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has up to this point opted not to make his tax returns public.
Not surprisingly, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift smells a rat and expressed her conspiratorial opinion during the predictions segment of PBS's McLaughlin Group Friday (video follows with transcript):
ELEANOR CLIFT, NEWSWEEK: Romney’s refusal so far to release his income tax returns will be linked to probable investments in the Cayman Islands and the likelihood that he paid a very small percentage of his income in taxes.
But the lefty meme of "Evil 1%er multimillionair who pays less taxes than his secretary" would be served by such a disclosure. The MSM would never explain the truth just parrot the bumper sticker slogan.
There really isn't much to be gained by releasing them now.

Romney’s campaign better have a couple of speeches which get AHEAD of this instead of defensive. He better explain capitalism while he’s doing it instead of defensiveness or Obama will reign over the country again.

WIllard, according to James Rosin on FOX news, made up to 15.5 million from Bain in just the year 2006-2007.
But he has repeatedly said he left Bain in 1999. Just depends on what the meaning of Left is. One thing for certain someone is going to get screwed.

The transition was ensured when Romney informed the 26 managing directors of Bain Capital recently that he was “going limited.” That meant he no longer intended to resume his duties as managing partner and chief executive of the company, which started or took part in 140 corporate acquisitions since 1984 and has more than $12 billion in assets.
In doing so, he gave up control over all of Bain Capital’s voting stock, dividing the shares between the two dozen directors. The divestiture had no financial ramifications, Romney said, affecting only the management and control of the company.

Romney took a leave of absence in 1999 as chief executive officer of Bain Capital Inc. to take the helm at SLOC.
Bain is one of the nation’s biggest private equity firms with 26 partners.
Earlier this year, Huntsman Corp. announced a deal in which Bain invested more than $600 million in the Salt Lake City-based chemical company.
Under terms of the deal, Bain gained a minority equity stake in Huntsman Corp., which assured the deal had nothing to do with Romney .
