After a Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance at Burlingtons City Hall Contois Auditorium Monday, about a dozen demonstrators marched on the TD Bank branch just down the street to protest the banks opening on the holiday.
The marchers briefly gathered in front of the bank, then tried to enter. Moments after the group arrived, Patrick Brown, director of the Burlington Multicultural Resource Center, said he would hand leaflets to bank tellers protesting the banks hours Monday. The leaflet read: Dear TD Bank, you are defying the King holiday. Shame, Shame, Shame. This is a racist act. Shame, Shame, Shame.
Bump.
I know what I would have said to them had I been a teller and I guarantee you it wouldn’t have been PC and would have gotten me fired, but I would have enjoyed myself saying it.
To paraphrase famed bank robber Willie Sutton, they choose a bank because that’s where the money is. It’s ALL about the Benjamins with these “activists.”
Blame Canada!
Sitting at my desk, working, at the bank I work for here in Alabama. The State of Alabama observes MLK’s birthday AND Robert E. Lee’s birthday on the same day.
We fear that if we open on MLK’s birthday, someone will accuse us of celebrating Robert E. Lee’s birthday. ;)
All those NBA players racist for working today?
You and I brother! I would have also remineded them that it’s correctly called Washingtn’s Birthday, not the PC MLK Day.
Rush talked about this very thing this morning. He said he will be called a racist because he worked today.
MLK has his own day?
I worked today and made $120 dollars (before MLK taxes).
the word racism was devised to destroy this country, and it is.
Yep! Unfortunately, Americans no longer have the inner strength.
Barry Goldwater was a member of the NAACP, at least for a time.
Good one.
Today is Albert Pujols' birthday though.
Wait til they move the 4th of July to the first Monday of July.
Isnt Lincoln’s birday Feb 12 and Washington’s Feb 22? Those are the celebrations we recognize.
The MAN is forcing them to.
The one that makes me puke is when they interview folks in the 'hood who proclaim "America has had many Presidents but only one King".
Most of the blacks in our area are at the unrelenting and crashingly boring MLK Luncheons. God protect me from ever having to attend again.
