Obama: I'm going to Disney World
Chicago Tribune ^ | 1/17/12 | Mark K. Matthews, Jason Garcia and Sara K. Clarke

Posted on 01/17/2012 11:27:52 AM PST by crosshairs

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will visit Walt Disney World during a planned trip to Orlando on Thursday, according to a White House aide. There, he will "unveil a strategy that will significantly help boost tourism and travel," the aide added. Details on that strategy were not disclosed. But it would be hard for Obama to pick a locale that's better known than Disney for a tourism announcement. The resort giant in Orlando has four theme parks that collectively draw more than 45 million visitors a year. It doesn't appear, however, that he'll get much love from local politicians. Aides to U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson said the Florida Democrat was unlikely to attend because the office "got word too late" of the visit and had meetings planned in other parts of the state. And Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer is scheduled to be in Washington that day for a meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. While the details of the announcement are still unknown, there's one topic at the top of the political wish list for Central Florida's tourism industry: Visa reform. The tourism industry has been pushing Congress and Obama to make it easier for visitors from emerging nations such as Brazil, India and China to come to the U.S. as tourists. In Brazil, where citizens have a reputation for loving Orlando's theme parks, there are four consulate offices to conduct the required in-person interviews for people who want a visa to visit the U.S. That means families could have to travel several hundred miles before they are even approved to travel to the U.S. But a recent Congressional appropriations bill gave the Secretary of State the authority to develop a pilot program to use videoconferencing to conduct remote visa interviews for leisure and business visitors.

Why?

He’s not talented enough to work there in any capacity.

Regular customers won’t want to see him there (after all, it’s a quality place with talented workers).

Besides, he’s a scumbag and would be prompbly cleaned up by the Disney first-class cleaning crew.

Disney World, a place of fantasy, seems a highly appropriate venue for most of President Obama's announcements and even more appropriate for what he actually does.

Will he bring his Styrofoam pillars along or with the management provide some new ones?

No kidding. Brazillian teen tour groups are EVERYWHERE, and can really jam up the lines. Most of them seem to be having a great time and are reasonably well behaved. However, we've had issues with some very rude behavior from a few of them.

I'm a little suprised to learn that they have trouble getting into the US... because there are so so many of them at Disney World.

So, by a stroke of Obozo's pen, he will sign an executive order which dissolves our southern border and open the floodgates of illegal immigration???

15% of disney employees were fired thanks to Obama.

is he too stupid to remember that? because of him a whole host of people in that area became unemployed.

BUT WAIT what about all those Nasa cutbacks? there is a ecoonomic dead zone.

Obama is nothing more than an incompetent boob who could not be a costa cruise captain.

I believe the constant “leaks” regarding the Obamas’ lavish travel, parties, and leisure time activities are deliberate finger pokes in the eye of the political right. I mean seriously, how difficult would it be for Obama and crew to restrain themselves while it office, giving the air of austerity, and then live well later? Answer: for a normal family, not much.

Sorry, I'm not buying Brazilians having trouble getting into the U.S. to go to Disney. I was on International Drive just yesterday and although it's been a couple of months since I was there last, I counted three new Brazilian - themed businesses. Having been run over at Disney by a horde of same T-shirted Brazilian pre-teens, as well as having a child living and working in Orlando, I can say with certainty that Brazilian tourism is alive, healthy and well.

The family was in Disneyworld for Christmas time. We understood it was going to be crazy but the South Americans, especially people from Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela, as a class are the most rude and obnoxious people I ever meet. You can see why losers like Chavez and the Kirchners appeal to these people. This is someone who is married to a Guatemalan and my wife agrees 100% (in fact she almost got into 2 fights with South Americans).
