Santorum accuses Romney of playing 'dirty politics'
Los Angeles Times ^ | January 17, 2011 | Michael Finnegan

Rick Santorum accused rival Mitt Romney on Tuesday of running a “dirty politics” robocall campaign in South Carolina to discredit the former Pennsylvania senator and mislead voters in the state’s fiercely contested Republican presidential primary Saturday.

Campaigning at the Yorktown aircraft carrier museum in Charleston Harbor, Santorum slammed the former Massachusetts governor for an automated call that plays a tape of Santorum endorsing Romney’s 2008 run for the GOP presidential nomination.

“Gov. Romney, out there playing a recording from four years ago, and suggesting that I’m endorsing him, is another example of Gov. Romney misleading the public about my record and what I believe in,” Santorum told reporters as he left a town-hall-style meeting on the warship.

“It’s dirty politics, and I expect that from Barack Obama. I don’t ever expect it from a Republican.”

A supporter, state Sen. Larry Grooms, joined Santorum in denouncing Romney. “When a man running for the highest office of the nation sanctions a phone call where one of his opponents does a fake endorsement, something’s wrong with that,” he said.

I don’t expect Santorum to win in South Carolina, but maybe he’ll poll respectably enough to remain a viable candidate. I sure hope Romney loses there. Romney needs to be stopped before the convention and we must do anything we can do deny him a majority of the delegates.

Then we can definitely write off Santorum as Mitt VP material.
One less thing.

Yeah, a second place finish would be wonderful in SC for Santorum.

IMHO the only thing floating Santorum is he has had a complete pass in IA and got a pass in NH.

He’s just getting a bit of scrutiny now for the first time.

He certainly had Mitt on the ropes last night for a while, the he faded out.

I don’t trust Romney, but I agree with him that convicted felons should not vote.

I think Santorum was pandering to the black community when he suggested that felons after serving their time should be allowed to vote.

I also dislike his plan on social security and he just seems to have that whine thing going.

There was one other time when he became incomprehensible during the debate but I’ve forgotten what it was. He also made funny faces when someone was talking about him.

I think he’s got some big negatives.

Why is everyone passively lying down and letting 3 states run over us.

I think everyone with the will and enough support and money should stay in through super Tuesday anyway.

SC prides itself on choosing presidents, but they are an open vote state and with dems not having to worry about their candidate ... although they should ... they will definitely try to foul up our candidates.

I really hope Perry stays in. He is just hitting his stride and was wonderful in the debate last night.

I'm from PA. Rick got his azz kicked by Bob Casey, Jr. the last time Rick ran for office. (When was the last time you heard Casey stand up for anything? Casey is a balless wonder, even by DemocRat standards. What does that make Rick.) I would vote for Santorum if he was the only choice between Obama and a republican, but Rick is not ready for prime time. I really have to wonder about a person that runs for President without an incredible background of achievement. Rick does not have that. (Previous performance is not a guarantee of future performance.) I'll pick the candidate that pissed off republicans by balancing the federal budget.

I think the guy in the singlewide has as much right to protect himself as the guy that lives on the hill.

That said, is it Ok to give the rich guy his rights back after he pulls a madoff scheme as it is to give them back to the guy in the singlewide who got popped on a cocaine possession charge?

One was a malicious beast, and one was just foolin around.

I make no excuses for either.

How is a guy tooting an 8 ball on the weekend the same as a guy that is rigging the system?

Well, not surprised anyway.

I think they all have “issues” that need to be addressed, IMHO. :)
