Conservatives Call on Rick Perry to Exit Race

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Several prominent conservatives have called for Rick Perry to call his presidential bid quits, with one blogger urging the Texas governor to end his campaign and throw his backing toward Newt Gingrich.

Erick Erickson, the founder of RedState.com, the website that hosted the event where Perry announced his presidential bid in August, penned an entry today calling Perry a potential “kingmaker” in the South Carolina primary if he drops out before the weekend.

“Barring a miracle, this is Rick Perry’s final act in the 2012 elections. On Saturday, he will come in last in South Carolina,” Erickson wrote in a diary entry on RedState today. “Perry, however, has a potential trump card up his sleeve as he rebuilds political capital. It’s simple: he can drop out today, and endorse someone else. Doing so today, before the CNN debate tomorrow, gives the news time to sink in.”

Erickson suggested that the Texas governor’s choice of an endorsement would likely be Gingrich, not Romney or Santorum.

Earlier in the day, radio host Laura Ingraham urged the Texas governor to leave the race in order to boost another social conservative over front-runner Mitt Romney. “It’s time for Rick Perry to drop out of the race — he is only helping Romney by splitting the vote,” Ingraham tweeted.

Both Sarah Palin and Mark Levin urged all candidates to stay in for now. Sarah said we need to know more before anyone drops out. Mark said it’s still early.

So what is with all this pressure for Perry to drop? Newt can do it alone, he’s surging and Romney’s tanking.

Listen to Sarah & Mark, they’re the smartest ones in the room.

It depends why he’s running, I guess. There has been some speculation that he may be working as a spoiler for Romney and the Establishment, in hopes of future reward. No idea if that is true. I hope not, because this whole business has been getting more and more dismal, with even RuPaul managing to cause more trouble than usual.

We’ll see. If he selfishly stays in despite having no chance, it sure won’t do his reputation any good. And I think he is diminishing his reputation in Texas by doing this, too. Kay Bailey Hutchinson pretty well destroyed her rep in Texas by going more and more RINO over the years. Let’s hope Perry doesn’t try the same ploy. It won’t work for him.

Eric was so in the tank for Perry initially and so Anti-Palin it is nice to see him eating humble pie.

I was an early supporter of Perry, but it's way past time for him to leave. Both Ricks are putting ego ahead of the good of the country, but at least Santorum has some reason to believe he could pull off a miracle upset. Perry is clearly dead in the water. If Myth wins SC by a margin less than the votes for Perry I will never forgive Perry.

I think conservatives should vote for Newt in S.C. but I don't think Perry should leave the race.

I still wouldn't be surprised if Perry is the last man standing.

He doesn't have the personnel baggage Newt had and he doesn't have the political baggage Santorum has.

The downside is he isn't a good speaker although he did pretty well at Mrytle Beach.

I do fear a Newt implosion.

The pressure comes from short-sighted morons who are hysterical to stop Romney. It is a noble desire to drop Romney, but they are hysterical in that they let the every day motions of the wind, when we are only 3 states into this, cause them to make irrational demands.

But no one ever said that our political system worked according to rational laws. Conservatives are no better than the libs when it comes to bandwagons and judging things based only on the appearance.

I’m not convinced we should have primaries any longer.

We work for months to put these dog and pony shows on, watch one open caucus and one primary, and then announce who the leader is.

What a sham this process is.

It looks for all the world like we’re going to have another di—weed this time around. I may not even vote for the jackass we’re headed towards.

Give me a choice folks. Let’s go third party in 2013. The Republican party has proven it has nothing at all to offer us.

As for Red State, I stopped reading them when they were all too happy to harp on the Herman Cain hit job. Erickson is a fool who doesn’t understand the candidates or himself.

What has Newt won at this point?

It makes no sense for Santorum to drop out and endorse Newt, considering that he won a primary and Newt has not.

If Newt really has what it takes, he can win South Carolina. If he doesn’t, we’ll find out in just a few more days.

Good reason.

Everyone knows the Perry campaign is over. At this point I think Even Perry knows it. He’s just staying in to show he’s a guy that doesn’t quit when the going gets tough.

But, another masculine quality is self sacrifice. If Perry would frame it that he’s getting out for the greater good, he come out of this a winner.

If he gets creamed in SC & Fla, what does it really gain him?

Conservatives unite to defeat the establishment RINOs and the Marxist!!

Romney is simply a big government, business as usual RINO and that’s why the establishment RINOs are trying to shove him down our throats. They want to hold on to their power!!

The media and the demoncrats love Romney too, because they believe he will lose to the Marxist, and he will.

If conservatives remain split three ways it’ll be a repeat of 2008 and the establishment RINO Romney waltzes in (and loses to Obama a la McLame).

We are the resistance!!

We are the grassroots!!

Don’t let the establishment and the Marxist have their way with us!!

Rebellion is brewing!!

NO RINOS!! NO ROMNEY!! NO WAY!!

NOT ON OUR WATCH!!

TEA PARTY CONSERVATIVES UNITE!!
