You know that SNL skit is already scripted and ready to go as soon as he gets the nomination, and it might be more devastating than the job they did on Palin.
“Poor Ann. She has lost her moral compass”
Yeah, going to bed every night with Bill Maher will do that to you!
Sure you can. We all understand free market capitalism, and I totally support the legality of it. It is and should remain legal for people to do things like risk and invest money to buy tickets to shows and games in bulk, and then resell at as high a price as the market will bear. It's free market capitalism. It happens also to be a form of capitalism practiced exclusively by assholes, but that's the price of freedom.
I totally support the legality of you or anyone else buying up internet domain names in the hope that when someone comes along who has a legit need for the name, that someone will pay out the nose for it. Such capitalists as these -- and they are certainly practicing a legitimate form of capitalism -- drive up prices for everyone but produce zero service and zero product. They are legal leeches and pains in the ass.
If YOU want to make a living those ways, fine, but don't be surprised when people reject you as a piece of slime -- however, I am very surprised at how it cannot be explained to FReepers "these days" that rejecting such as a piece of slime is an entirely separate animal than rejecting capitalism. Indeed, many FReepers insist that we put such capitalists in the same noble ranks as folks like Henry Ford and Bill Gates.
Though to be honest, there's nothing to indicate that Romney every engaged in that kind of slimy capitalism. No, there are only indicators that this heroic capitalist helped by "financing" failing companies so they could borrow money, collected fees for doing so, transferred those company's assets to Bain, and then when the company filed bankruptcy and the creditors sought the assets to offset what was owed ... they found there were no assets and were left holding the bag. Romney pocketed the "profit" as a capitalist just being smart and knowing his way around tax and bankruptcy codes. Criticize it, and you're not criticizing Romney for being a slimy capitalist, but by Gawd, you're criticizing capitalism itself!!
Do I have that about right, Jedi? I know Brillian and Syncro will demand, "Links, please!" Well, B & S, I refer you to Jedi's posts in forum. You'll find them.
But something tells me you won't stop pretending that holding sleazeballs who make money in a slimy fashion isn't a whole nother ballgame from criticizing "free market capitalism." It's like saying folks who blame a drunk driver for a car wreck, are critizicing the entire automotive industry.
Why doesn’t Mitt just release his income tax records, now? Why wait until April
Dried up old Anne has finally jumped the shark. Now she’s just cutting off her nose to spite her own face.
[Willard has had a constant 25 to 30 support in polls.]
Which means he has a consistent 70%-75% who don’t want him. And still you wish to push him down our throats.
Couldn't help but notice that three of the first ten comments missed the irony and word play in the title of Coulter’s essay.
The business in question was a paper manufacturer.
And “ream” is also a verb, which means...well...to ream someone out.
Finny, I need a lesson in capitalism.
Explain to me exactly how Romney made a profit by financing companies that went bankrupt.
I don’t get it.
Yeah, that sounds about right. Didn’t George Soros get criticism around here for damaging a country’s currency through his investments or something like that?
It certainly looked suspicious to me when I kept reading that Bain’s acquired companies would go bankrupt but Bain netted big profits on them at the same time. That’s where the tactic would come in where they would borrow a lot of money on the company, transfer it to themselves as fees and dividends, and then when the company went bankrupt the creditor found few assets to be claimed because the money had been pocketed by Bain under a different “umbrella.”
So Bain really wasn’t doing anything risky. They drove up the debt on these companies and paid themselves fees real early on after getting them. Then if the company succeeded, they could sell it for money, but if it didn’t they were in the profit already and the creditor was stuck with the bill, as well as the government pension insurance program.
This site has a collection of links discussing Bain’s more predatory tactics...

Incidentally, now that credit has tightened in the wake of the recession I hear they aren’t doing very many deals anymore. So in part what Bain did was a symptom of loose lending policies, the same stuff that led to the mortgage crisis. There is some speculation there could be a wave of collapses of the firms held under “private equity,” which represent 10% of the workforce, just as we saw Hostess and a couple others hit the skids this month. Because companies under leveraged buyouts are placed under so much debt, they are the low-hanging fruit in a bad economy. If you google “leveraged buyout” or “private equity” you can research more about how this business model works.
Yeah, I agree with you. Hse is shrill to my ears now when before it was music.
I combed down this latest rag of an article looking for where she’d bash Newt, and of course she does at the end about Newt surmising in her mind that Newt would be against free enterprisse and the evolution of technology.
i gave mine to goodwill for the tax write off.
Is there, is there Bain in Gilead?
Quoth the Raven, "Plentymore".
The Romney campaign in trochaic octameter .... courtesy of Mittens and Edgar Allan Poe.
Well, he is Mormon, and a big-time Temple Mormon bishop at that, which is hot stuff. And someone was just counting on fingers and citing Mormon doctrine to demonstrate that Willard may actually be practicing a form of "spiritual" polygamy under-the-radar. Or so they figured. It was an entertaining read.
I don't know if that would do it for our Annie.
Now IF Romney's financial policies are ‘conservative’, why on earth would he be praising Obama as being like him in ‘government’ auto bail out? Notice I have said NOT one word against Romney's wealth, but the fact that he is NOT competent to comprehend the difference in private wealth creation and government wealth destruction.
Romney is his own worst enemy, because these liberals will Alinsky him into the poor house, unless he takes a vow of poverty first.
I believe the term of art is "rent-seekers".
By doing a 2 a.m. late-term D&C on the balance sheet and then hitting the beaches on Cayman Brac before the creditors' required notices arrived in the snail-mail?
“I don’t know if that would do it for our Annie.”
Ann “man neck” Coulture dated Bill Mahar, that’s right she dated that slimly POS leftist, so she has NO standards that can be trusted when it comes to men.
