Miami Heat owner Micky Arison has had some bad financial luck of late. And the recent Costa Concordia cruise liner disaster only added to the billionaires woes. To say nothing of the lives lost during the tragic wreck. From the Guardian: More than £300m has been wiped off the paper fortune of the multibillionaire boss of the company that owned the stricken cruise liner Costa Concordia. Micky Arison, the flamboyant chairman, chiefexecutiveand majority owner of FTSE 100 company Carnival, saw a large chunk of his $4.5bn (£2.9bn) holdings dissolve on Monday as the companys shareslost almost a fifth of their value

Of course it’s Bush’s fault. If he hadn’t outsourced the cruise ship industry to Italy with a no bid contract to Halliburton by deregulating the cruise ship industry while giving a tax cut to the richest 1% of all Americans, none of this would have ever happened.
The underwriters at Lloyds of London will get hit quite hard also.
Historical maritime laws are often written in blood.
there will be some surprising changes I see on and over the horizon as far as cruise ships are concerned.
And on a different tack I just wonder if somehow this event could have possibly even been orchestrated for a political agenda, and I say that because its still just too hard to accept it as a “Hold muh wine” moment on the captains part.
“Orchestrated for a political agenda”???? Please tell me you’re not serious. Someone convinced a ship captain to sink his own ship? For WHOSE agenda exactly?
Everything isn’t politics. I think your tin foil hat is on a bit tight.
Well just consider what Italy is going through and what it would benefit from a natural disaster such like this.
Or should i say a man made disaster?
I have investigative talents and i have a gut feeling that the extreme urge to paint the captain as a “chicken of the sea” and all is further proof they want a scapegoat, and something to take the peoples voice and anger away for awhile.
First we hear things about “harmonics” then we see “falling in a liferaft” and now an illegal mistress on the ship?
Something smells fishy and its not the sushi bar.
So someone worth over $1,000,000,000 loses some money. Cry me a river.
“If he hadnt outsourced the cruise ship industry to Italy”
No cruise ships are built here.
WHY?
US government regulations.......surprise!
Specifically US Coast Guard regulations, many of which are ridiculous. Although there are obviously are many good things they check to make sure of for the safety of passengers and crew, it’s like any other US govt outfit.
So like any other business that has found the US to be overburdening to operate in, so too has shipbuilding.
Under international and maritime law, payouts to passengers are pretty limited.
+1
They have it on tape!! They have the Italian coast guard ordering him back to his ship, and they have the Captain dithering like an old woman.
So Columbo, how exactly would you orchestra a guy (accidently? without his knowledge?) wrecking his own ship and ruining his life?
You watch a lot of those ‘CSI’ type shows, correct?
...that doesn’t count on the resume as giving you ‘investigative talents’.
***Someone convinced a ship captain to sink his own ship?***
Plot line from REAP THE WILD WIND and WAKE OF THE RED WITCH with JOHN WAYNE
and WRECK OF THE MARY DEARE with GARY COOPER.
and even if limited, every one of them will sue so that's what... up to 3700 suits if a full load was on board
me thinks he's still in for some rough seas ahead
