If Rick Santorum won Iowa, why is GOP calling it a 'split decision'?

The Iowa Republican Party will certify this month's presidential caucuses as a split decision between former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, citing missing data from eight precincts, the Des Moines Register reported on Thursday.

The party had previously awarded the contest to Romney, with an eight vote margin. The official certified caucus results are due out Thursday at 8:15 a.m. local time (1415 GMT).

The Register said the new count put Santorum ahead by 34 votes. However, results from any one of the eight precincts with "missing data" could hold an advantage for Romney, the Register reported.

"It's a split decision," the newspaper said, citing a party official in the state. There are too many holes in the certified total from the caucuses to know for certain who won, it said.

GOP officials discovered inaccuracies in 131 precincts, although not all the changes affected Romney or Santorum, the newspaper reported.

"The Iowa caucuses, with record turnout, were a great start to defeating President Obama in Iowa and elsewhere in the general election."

"If Rick Santorum won Iowa, why is GOP calling it a 'split decision'?"

Because that's what Karl Rove instructed them to say...

They lost votes so they’re calling it a tie? Has this ever happened before in any election held in the United States? Incredible. The banana republic, formerly known as the United States of America, rolls on.

Because Newt Romney will provide the best scandals when it counts after the primaries. Santorum is boring to the media.

Oh, let’s just look at the sources here:

CSMonitor-Obama?

Al-Reuters, who embeds their reporters with al-Qaeda?

And of course, the GOP-E who desperately wants Willard to win so he can take a dive against the Kenyan Muslim?

Why, we can’t IMAGINE why they’d say such things.

because romney won the majority of the news coverage that was wrong, and santorum will win the small bit that remains that is right.

Just ask yourself this: Would it be called a “split decision” if Ron Paul or Sarah Palin had come in a close second to Milt, instead of Rick Santorum narrowly defeating him?

"They lost votes so they’re calling it a tie?"

And this is the state that gets the great honor of going first.

So then, a 9 vote win by Romney over Santorum is a WIN for Romney, with Santorum in second place; but a 34 vote win by Santorum over Romney is a TIE between Romney and Santorum...

Got it!

Because there are 8 precincts NOT REPORTING.
That’s why.

Also points out the tiny amount of votes in all of Iowa anyway. SC will have more voters Saturday than all of Iowa and NH combined by FAR.

8 votes, 34 votes, Iowa, a blue state. Does not matter.

Because 8 more votes for your guy is a victory, but 34 more votes for the other guy is a split decision.

What will they say when Newt wins in S.C. even after tonights dirt dump?

Exactly. Add this to the "truck" on caucus night that supposedly was brining more votes for Romney, the late night delay in counting votes, the fishy stuff going on with the Virginia ballots, etc., and it's obvious they're trying to steal this for Mittens.

Because the Establishment GOP are in the tank for Mittens! They “Lost” the ballots so they couldn’t be certified and hand a win to Santorum....So Mitt went out with the GOP stamp of approval and declared victory. I hope SC throws a big Monkey Wrench into the plans of the GOP bums that want Mitt!!

... the GOP-E who desperately wants Willard to win so he can take a dive against the Kenyan Muslim ..

Take a gander at McCain's opposition research from 2008 on Romney that got leaked yesterday. It pretty much sent me over the edge last night. How in the h.e.double L the GOP can run Romney as a Repub is beyond me ..... absolutely disgusting and then some (still mad about it). Obama will eviscerate him.

Yes, I know that. The question is- why aren't they reporting? What is this "missing data" that somehow disappeared at the last second?
