Extremely, incredibly exploitive (911 movie never mentions terrorism, islam, murder)
NY Post ^ | January 19, 2012 | ANDREA PEYSER

Ten years after New York was hit by an unbearable act of savagery, the gloves have come off in Hollywood.

A new movie genre has emerged that’s bound to dazzle and nauseate every breathing American...

I’ll call it . . . 9/11 porn.

Osama bin Laden would have loved this.

The Internet and TV have been ablaze for a month with unavoidable advertisements for “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,” a movie that does for the monsters who brought down the World Trade Center what “Triumph of the Will” did for a guy named Adolf.

...it’s a tale about love, loss and the abject exploitation of the dead and the living. Unlike grieving, real-life relatives of the souls who perished on 9/11 — folks who wouldn’t honor this movie by accepting free popcorn — I went to see it.

This movie tells lies...

< snip >

...the boy’s quixotic attempt to hold on to his dad (Tom Hanks), who was murdered in the Trade Center. Yes, I wrote “murder.” But you won’t hear that word uttered by anyone in the film, because 9/11 is presented here as a kind of cosmic accident. Like lightning.

The message isn’t “love one another.” It’s “sh-t happens.”

< snip >

But the most outrageous falsehood promoted in the film is the thing it leaves out. The word “terrorist” is consciously never said. Nor is “murderers,” “butchers” or “Muslim extremists.”

In a climactic scene, Bullock tells her son that 9/11 “made no sense.” This is the biggest lie of all.

For 9/11 made perfect sense. It was an act of barbarity committed by people bent on destroying this city, this nation.

Denying this is worse than insensitive. It glamorizes reality...

The commercials alone have been far more than I ever wanted to see of this mess.

Hollywood has a psycho problem anyway. No child is safe.

This movie was made to indoctrinate our kids, and sheep who believe everything that comes out of hollyweird.

Yep, the commercials are heartbreaking though. They almost make me cry.

How would moviegoers accept a film that likened the sinking of the USS Arizona to the sinking of the Titanic?

Hollywood at its worst.. a propaganda horn with blinders, nothing else. Full of stars and lacking any semblance of reality.

Hollywood at its finest was ‘Sgt. York’ and Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable.

Tom Hanks is neither of those.

BINGO!

They couldn’t pay me enough to make me go see this POS.

They’re selling this crap to women.

Any movie that doesn’t show what happened, and what happened to the perps and planners of 09/11, is not presenting a presentation I’m interested in seeing.

Folks, ask yourself who these fine producers and actors are donating to and voting for, before you go all wobbly on us.

These are NOT solid citizens. They would sell out their mothers, their nation, and their children for a buck.

I’m really tired of Tom Hanks.

Oh "Amen" to that. It's been thirty years of the same worn out "everyman" schtick.

And now, his son has been unleashed onto Hollywood. Colin Hanks sucked almost all of the energy out of Dexter last season.

Me too, I thought at one time he was the Jimmy Stewart of our times. I have since changed my opinion of him. He is a talented actor, no doubt, but I can’t listen to his political views.

Did they work “Neo-Nazis”, “White Supremacists” or “Christian Fundamentalists” in there anywhere?

Conservatives need to practice a little ‘cultural dissidence’ here.

Paying for a ticket to the movies is like handing the Hollywood Communists a stick to beat us with.

I have not been to a Hollywood movie in so long, I can't even remember what I saw last. Withholding our dollars can make a strong statement here and across the board.

If this is about the Tom Hanks movie, it is a liberal circle jerk of useless emotion, largely contrived and likely political horseshit. Cry me a river.

We have a monument (do we?), they’ve been paid millions and millions and millions and couldn’t agree on rebuilding what was taken from this country. It’s all good now brother.....Obama got Osama, didn’t he? It is the disgrace of this nation in my opinion.

Put this movie on my list to view - NOT.

So, Hollywood makes a movie to show how those buildings jumped in front of the planes?

In the ads on TV, in one shot, Sandra Bullock is on the phone with Tom Hanks—she is looking out the window at the smoking Towers—Hanks tells her he is on the 105 floor “and they have been told to WAIT for the Fire Department.”. Told to wait...so he waits. Somebody else will get him to safety.

Props to the Post for this.

I liked Tom Hanks better when he was making movies, like “Bachelor Party.”
