In endorsing Newt Gingrich's presidential bid, Rick Perry may have thrown some votes over to the former House Speaker in the upcoming South Carolina primary. But it's no guarantee that the Texas governor's financial backers will follow.
While many of Perry's evangelical Christian donors in Texas could find Gingrich appealing, fundraisers from the establishment wing of the GOP are more likely to gravitate to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Indeed, one top Perry fundraiser -- Dirk Van Dongen, a lobbyist who co-chaired the governor's fundraising efforts in Washington -- signed on to the Romney camp Thursday morning.
"I would guess that some will stay on the sidelines, but the majority will come to the Romney camp because I think most people do see Romney as highly likely to be the nominee and regard him as the best able to beat Obama," said veteran GOP fundraiser Fred Malek.
Malek is a Perry admirer who had remained neutral for much of the primary because of his work raising money for the Republican Governors Assn. But in late November, he quietly joined Romney's national finance committee.
Malek said Perry's endorsement of Gingrich would have "minimal" impact on donors.

LoL LA Times. Your wishful thinking is not going to work. They won't go to Romney.
Hard to get people that have made money to support you when you are calling them names. This is probably one of the reasons perry left, his money people were pissed.
so youre saying the republican establishment doesnt want romney?....make up your mind...or do you just react without reading
Oh wow. The MSM does a story about “divisions within the Republican Party.” That’s a new one.
Perry is the on the right to the moderate Mittens, and the LA Times are suggesting that his donors will run to Mittens who is located on the left of the political spectrum? LoL. Noway. Perry's donors and supporters are likely to go to Gingrich or Santorum as Perry's donors and supporters are on the right of the political spectrum to Mittens. It's preposterous to suggest otherwise in their headline of this LA Slimes article that they would flock to Romney.
And moreover, the LA Times people are still delusional.
“Perry’s donors “
dont know about his supporters but some of his donors did jump to Romney already
Wilkins seems to be the money guy
Ambassador David H. Wilkins is a partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP and chairs the Public Policy and International Law practice group, which focuses primarily on representing businesses on both sides of the US-Canadian border and offers experience on a wide range of strategic bilateral issues.
Finding “some” donors or supporters by the LA Times doesn’t make their point. It’s misleading and illogical. Any former Perry supporters that jump to Romney is not based on political ideological grounds. Perry, as his supporters, are more politically aligned with Gingrich and Santorum, and therefore, most will support those two in the up coming elections. Just like Governor Perry who has now endorsed Gingrich.
A few big money guys who operate on some "other standard" but the bulk of Perry voters won't go to Romney.
I was disappointed when he endorsed Gingrich, someone I will not support.
This is where Santorum needs to get behind Newt.
ANY backers of failed candidates should throw their towel into the Ron Paul ring.
Make EVERYBODY think that Ron Paul IS a contender.
