Rick Santorum walked a fine line in his response to questions about Marianne Gingrich’s accusations against her ex-husband and Santorum’s GOP rival, Newt.

“Personal matters are personal matters, but they are matters that are — particularly when you are in public life as he was at the time and the people involved were also in a sense in public life — those issues are issues that people will look at,” Santorum responded.

“I believe in forgiveness, I’m called to believe in forgiveness,” he continued. “I do believe having some accountability to a higher calling other than self is a very, very important aspect and perspective that is important for leaders.

“To make the final comment, these are issues of character and these are issues that people will consider based upon the time, when, where, how all those thing will factor in and I’ll let people make that decision, I’m certainly not going to make it for them,” he said to a crowd of about 150 people.

I have not considered Rick viable since he endorsed Arlen Sphincter.

It was a sincere question, who did the three term Governor who came in second in the 2008 primary, keep from becoming the conservative president?

I think you’re full of it - and I think the unwillingness of a person to consider the possibility a man has changed with the help of Jesus Christ in his life’s journey is directly proportional to spiritual pride, and inner ugliness.

Sincerely,

A Faithful Wife

“I think the level of defense of Gingrich is proportionate to the number of times a person has cheated on their spouse.”

Why, how very sanctimonious of you!

It’s not the Beaver Cleaver world anymore.
HALF of the men in America are divorced. Half the WOMEN in America have a husband who has a crazy ex-wife that just won’t let go, like Gingrich does.

You don’t have to like it, but it is life in the modern era.

I think the level of defense of Gingrich is proportionate to the number of times a person has cheated on their spouse.

Conversely, I think the level of sanctimony on the part of people attacking Newt is proportional to the guiltiness of their consciences...

This seems kinda odd for him to complain about Newt when he is on record many times praising the Speaker for being the person who got things done in Washington. ??!! See Special Report site- Fox news showed some examples of this very thing. Rick Santorum decries big government though he supports a new structure of more laws which would be in control of the internet. Also, that control of the government impacting the flow of all information in which we all are able to/not to/ pursuit. During the previous debate, he came across as very desperate to me. He is telling news reporters that he is not getting out of the race even though the anchors are telling him that he is splitting votes (which they like to see happening-Imo). It is only helping Romney to split votes. He is hoping that Newt will collapse and he will be there standing. I am praying that does not occur because Obama wins. Rick Perry left in time for unity.

Yes, such vicious attacks! Like when 2DV posted this one, where you can hear Santorum say:

"One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world. There is no such society that I’m aware of, where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.”

I know, those awful hackers and liberal posters! And those wascawwy wadical individuawists!

/sarcasm

I never use those adjectives in regard to myself or anybody else. If Newt runs against the prince I will support Newt but I do it with eyes wide open and with the certain knowledge that Newt will toss conservativism aside as easily as a wife if some new age idea seduces him.

Agree 100 per cent.

We scream for a fighter...and when we get one his frailties are presented as deal killers.

Today, I am not looking for good traits in a future husband or choosing a pastor.

I am looking for a down and dirty fighter that can win.

I think Newt can.

Sadly, politicians are not nice ethical people. Some just hide it better than others.

“Blue nose”? What does that mean?

1) Santorum backed RINO Specter and not conservative Toomey.
2) He’s playing the conservative vote divider like Huckabee did in 2008, allowing RINO McCain to get the nomination.

He’s blue, not red. He should look in the mirror, show himself a man of the people like Perry, and drop out for the greater good.

He can wait for a “it’s his turn” election year. Not this year. He can also run for governor.

Santorum said the same things at the last debate after he was ASKED about this subject. At campaign stops, he answers questions that he's ASKED - he does not necessarily bring up a specific topic. How do I know this? I watch campaign/election coverage videos on local TV websites.

Conversely, I think the level of sanctimony in attacking Newt Gingrich and agreeing with Santorum is directly proportional to the likelihood that person is a sanctimonious prig.

I believe Mr. Santorum at one time stated that Newt taught him everything he knows.

Lol, Rick Santorum has a character issue because his wife had a lover before she met Santorum? Or did you mean his wife had a character problem for falling in love? Either way you simply display a nastiness that would be unbecoming for even a leftist.

Since Santorum wants to talk about issues of character, their is that endorsement of Arlene Spector that caused him to get kicked out by the voters of his own state.

In other words, he was willing to go against his own beliefs of which he is so proud of, to help a truly corrupt turd get re-election!

That endorsement got his a$$ thrown out on his ear!

Though I was not a Perry supporter (but I would gladly have voted for him vs. Obama/Romney), he has risen considerably in my estimation specifically because of a REAL show of character, the kind of character that is to me, even more admirable than the kind it takes to remain faithful in marriage.

When Perry endorsed Newt yesterday morning, he said much the same thing you said in your wonderful post. Now PERRY is a man of real character. I hope Santorum proves himself to be equally heroic on that grander scale of "character."

God bless Rick Perry, and GODSPEED NEWT GINGRICH.
