Perry May Not Be Done With the National Stage
Texas Tribune ^ | 1/20/2012 | Ross Ramsey

Posted on 01/21/2012 1:45:21 PM PST by FryingPan101

Sarah Palin got a reality show. Hillary Clinton is secretary of state. Mike Huckabee is on the radio and TV. Rudy Giuliani’s name is still on the door of that giant law firm.

What will Rick Perry’s second act be?

He has nearly three years, including another legislative session, left in his current term as governor. He opened and closed his presidential run with a message that’s still relevant in national politics and probably useful to the Republicans once their nomination battle is over.

“sounds like a threat to me.”

It depends on your point of view. I live here in Texas, and my dream would be for Perry to get a cabinet position, maybe Energy Secretary. It would be a double-win for us - it gets him out of Austin, so that we can (hopefully) replace him with a conservative, and he might actually do a good job, being that he does seem to understand energy (even if he has virtually no idea regarding what the rest of the federal government does).

Ha! Yeah, I wouldn’t be looking into any professional talking if I were Rick.

I was in hopes that Newt would get the nomination and then bring in all the other candidates.

Paul at the Fed
Perry as VP or secdef
Bachman in the cabinet
Santorum in the cabinet
Cain as VP or in cabinet

Oh, one more thing. I think Newt will be the nominee but if the dems cheat enough and Zero is re-elected then I want the house to elect Newt as speaker. He does not have to be a member to be speaker if I remember correctly.

Boner gotta go!

What spot would you want Huntsman and Romney to have?

If you don’t think Rick Perry gives good speeches, then you haven’t bothered to hear him give a speech. The Texas Tribune is a liberal publication; it always seeks to demean Rick Perry. I also live in Texas. What part of his record isn’t conservative?

If I answered I’d get banned..lol

seriously, they could be safely given something to do.
I doubt Romney would accept any position though.

Perry gives a good speech!

I really really like the guy, It would be cool if Newt would serve one term with Perry as VP and then they reversed that for the 2nd term. Or, Newt could resign just past the 2yr mark in the 2nd term making Perry president...he could then serve 10yrs.

Have you tuned into the debates? The man makes W and Poppy sound articulate.

But I think he is a reasonably good conservative. Exceptions: that he’s bought his governorships through crony capitalism, his stand on illegal immigration, and everything about his attempted mandate with Gardasil.

Just joking as you said “all”. Personally I’d like to see executives brought into the slots rather other politicans.

Have a nice afternoon.

“Ha! Yeah, I wouldn’t be looking into any professional talking if I were Rick’”

The debates were foolish for every participant. They were set up so one candidate could do nothing but attack another. The mesdia only wanted blood. I was sorry they all had to go through it. It was degrading and lacked decorum. I felt like the popcorn was being passed around at the WH and a whole lotta chucklin’ going on.

Governor Perry’s speeches are articulate and inspiring. Always filled with good will and humor, he speaks to the issues. He plays the hand that was dealt him by the feds. He is a genuine state’s rights guy and someday you’ll be glad there was a Governor Perry out there. He is welcomed in almost every forum in the country and respected by his fellow governors. Sorry you only know him from the so-called debates.

If (when?) Obama is reelected, Perry absolutely should run again in 2016.

Romney, Paul and Newt won't be running again. Bachmann needs to survive her House reelection or move to higher office. Santorum might but with no added executive experience, he'll be even less relevant in 2016 than 2012 as his senate career becomes a most distant memory.

I disagree. Lincoln discovered the unpleasant results of doing that sort of thing, and the current President chose to repeat that mistake.

No chance. Perry couldn’t even beat the lightweights in the field this year. There’s no way he’d stand a chance against people like Christie, Rubio, Daniels, Thune, etc. or even *shudder* Jeb Bush.

So you think he would be effective and impressive as a pundit or talk host on radio or TV?

That’s what the article was suggesting.

I think Perry speaks much better than W. Perry has brain farts and gets flustered every once but generally speaks well.
