CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- Mitt Romney took the stage in front of hundreds of supporters and thanked them for their help in taking second place in South Carolina.
"Thank you so very much," he said to the crowd. "You should hear it when we win!"
He went on to thank South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and his campaign staff and told the people of South Carolina that he owed them "so much."
But in the end, it was another candidate who walked away with the primary win.
"I want to congratulate speaker Gingrich for a hard fought race," said Romney. "Tomorrow we move on to Florida."
Romney then focused on Obama and how he feels we should fix the country saying that the stakes have never been higher and that this election is a "battle for the soul of America."
"I want to make federal government simpler, smaller, smarter and I will do it."
He promised to repeal Obamacare before going on to point out the shortcomings of his opponents.
"Our party can't be lead to victory by someone who has also never run a business."
Even though he's congratulated Gingrich for a win in South Carolina, Romney continues to look forward to the other primaries.
"I will compete in every state. We are going to win this nomination and defeat President Obama in November," he said. "The American people will be looking for a real choice in this campaign and I will provide it."
With the crowd chanting his name, Mitt Romney left the stage shaking hands and saying "Thank you."
Boy, I’ll bet you’re a party favorite, eh, Buzzkill?
Sounds like he hadn’t prepared a concession speech until after the polls had closed.
LMAO alterPaul that’s a good description.
That way has been pretty effectively blocked by the way Newt has handled things.
They may as well kick dead whales down the beach, for all the good that will do.
That dog won't hunt, now.
But they are welcome to flog that dead horse.

Delegate count as of tonight:
Romney 19, Gingrich 17, Santorum 12, Paul 3.
Romney wont leave but he probably is done.
The real question is WTH is alterPaul sticking around for?
Folks are happy but I just don’t see how this Newt can win. Not only the primary, but how he could win a national election.
Maybe I’m wrong but the guy’s time is past. He’s carrying a lot of baggage and his erratic blowups can occur at any time.
Right now NBC is plotting to see just that happen tomorrow on Meet the Press.
No one say the name Paul Ryan to him. Please.
Paul is sticking around to push his message. On one, he is getting traction that is healthy.
The Fed is not good for this country.
Totally agree. Romney is in the wrong party. He and Zero are the same....except Zero is more likeable....and more sincere in that he doesn’t try to pretend he is something he isn’t.
I second that!!!
None of that mattered in this primary as he won, and probably wont at all in the others.
What do you mean “this Newt”, what other Newt is there?
Gingrich was not thinking big enough with suggested two others drop out...
I am not kidding, Mitt could win the Democratic nomination if he switched parties tomorrow.
Your tag line is interesting, you are aware that Soros is funding much of what alterPaul does, just in case you are a supporter.
That piece of his message maybe good, its all the other stuff that is lunacy and delusional.
Florida I think in no way is a shoe-in for Gingrich. It may well end as a three way split between the top three, particularly after the large part of the iceberg yet unseen about Newt comes out and comes out hard in the next 10 days, sad to say for him. If I were a conservative I would not be so hot to trot to abandon a Plan B, (a alternative lifeboat) such as Rick Santorum who has far less baggage than Newt which is coming out, and then we are all just stuck with Romney and Paul in the race. Some choice. Think weeks out ahead folks, this race changes on a dime and it will do so again in the future no doubt. PS CNN sure is opening their mouth and giving away the whole Obama General Election playbook plan, amazingly so, regardless who the GOP nominee.
Then hide and watch.

This is where I got the info.

I’m totally serious, the first significant state to vote choose the highly flawed Gingrich over Romney by a wide margin with Romney clocking in at under 30% it looks like.
When this happens in personal relationships it’s called getting dumped.
Mitt can go get his stuff while the voters are at work and go buy some ice cream or he can circle around the voter’s block at 3AM in his Chevy. Have some dignity Mitt!
I’m sure there’s a Game Show starting up somewhere that needs a host, or maybe J.C. Penney could give him a job modeling golf slacks for their Spring catalog.
And I can't wait to drive around Obamaland with my NEWT 2012 Bumper Sticker so I can piss off all the libtards!!!
FUBO, FUMR and Karl Rove just disappear!!!
