Romney concedes to Gingrich in SC GOP Primary
WCIV-TV ^ | January 21, 2012

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- Mitt Romney took the stage in front of hundreds of supporters and thanked them for their help in taking second place in South Carolina.

"Thank you so very much," he said to the crowd. "You should hear it when we win!"

He went on to thank South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and his campaign staff and told the people of South Carolina that he owed them "so much."

But in the end, it was another candidate who walked away with the primary win.

"I want to congratulate speaker Gingrich for a hard fought race," said Romney. "Tomorrow we move on to Florida."

Romney then focused on Obama and how he feels we should fix the country saying that the stakes have never been higher and that this election is a "battle for the soul of America."

"I want to make federal government simpler, smaller, smarter and I will do it."

He promised to repeal Obamacare before going on to point out the shortcomings of his opponents.

"Our party can't be lead to victory by someone who has also never run a business."

Even though he's congratulated Gingrich for a win in South Carolina, Romney continues to look forward to the other primaries.

"I will compete in every state. We are going to win this nomination and defeat President Obama in November," he said. "The American people will be looking for a real choice in this campaign and I will provide it."

With the crowd chanting his name, Mitt Romney left the stage shaking hands and saying "Thank you."

There’s 4 guys in the race, none of them are perfect. Newt is probably the best of whats available.

Sources like CNN apportioning Iowa’s delegates are just making it up out of their a**es. Iowa won’t choose national convention delegates until June.

I heard a rumor Palin also said something about FOX NEWS being surprised at the Gingrich SC win????

So far nothing out yet but from the Huffy post and the tidbit says SC Gov Nikki was NOT PRESENT at Romney headquarters tonight.

According to Dr. Krauthammer, Ron Paul is staying in to make sure the Republican big tent still covers Libertarianism. I think he’s right.

As a kid in high school, I was a Libertarian, too, but then joined the College Republicans because I believed in Frank Meyers’ and Ronald Reagan’s fusionism: social, economic, and foreign policy conservatives in an ‘iron triangle’ of mutual support. Ron Paul has a very old-fashioned idea of what conservative means in each of those categories, much as I did.

However, Libertarians would rather be right than popular, which makes the perfect the enemy of the good. That’s the fundamental problem with Ron Paul, but also why he won’t get out.

I think your delegate count is off. CNN reports it as: Romney - 31, Gingrich - 22, Paul - 10, Santorum - 8 1,144 are needed to win, so the race is hardly over.

Well CBS News is also showing what was reported on this thread. Wonder why the variance?

I’m sure there’s a Game Show starting up somewhere that needs a host, or maybe J.C. Penney could give him a job modeling golf slacks for their Spring catalog.

LOL! You just nailed the Mittster perfectly. Thanks for the chuckle. :)

i don’t agree Soros is funding “much of what” Paul does. And I don’t think it matters as Paul’s message on the Fed and the economy is all that matters from him.

Concur with you on the rest of the lunacy.

The best news from South Carolina is that Paul placed last! Thank goodness for that. Romney is hanging on, but his appeal is not strong, just his financial base. In these days the public has learned to think for themselves and ignore the hype that money buys and listen to the words of the candidate and judge him on his record. We don't want to be pushed aside again.

I like Newt and Santorum, those two are the best of the best and I would be happy with either one leading our country. I just feel that Santorum is a little short on the ability to whip Obama in the debates. Whoever we have in this election he must...must...must be able to knock Obama off base every time Obama opens his mouth. Obama didn't win on substance, he won with street-fighter tactics, caustic comments, ridicule, and snide remarks and gestures. Those who did not pay attention to what Obama was really saying and his serious lack of qualifications fell for his comedy act...he was the comedian on the stage, and thus a clown ended up occupying our White House.

The GOP candidate must, this time, be better prepared to more quickly and directly throw Obama's jabs back in his face. He must slap down Obama's ridicule, call him on his lies and failures, and put forth clever, sharp, truthful sound bites that will resonate in the ears of Americans.
