Now that Newt has struck the first blow, Newt supporters will have to steel themselves, because in the next couple of weeks the poop is going to hit the fan. The GOP Elite are pissed and scared. They are angry that their wisdom has been challenged and that conservatives have shown that we will not be led around like sheep. For that reason the character assassination of Newt is about to begin. Every nasty rumor, slip up, photo, recording, anything they can get will come out in the next few weeks in an attempt to destroy the conservative we have decided to rally around.
The key for us will be to stick it out and not get down. Remember the feeling we have tonight, where we have the first victory and found the candidate we can get behind. In my mind I see it like the battle scene in the movie Braveheart, where the armies are facing each other and the British archers launch a volley of arrows and the Scottish rebels duck under their shields that are peppered with arrows, but then they stand, taunt and continue the charge. They are going to do everything they can to cause us to question wether Newt is "the one" by scarring him badly but we must keep our eyes on the goal. If Newt can take it (and he can), so can we.
The garbage we are about to endure will come largely from the GOP, mostly from shadowy operatives, but we must not pay attention. They want us to be disheartened and distracted but we must not. The onslaught will innoculate Newt for the General Election, so don't get down!!!
That is the exact same scenario that gave us Russ Feingold. You know, McCain-Feingold.
The attacks will be old stuff, new stuff and made up stuff. They will start to make fun of everything about him from his weight to his wife. We must stick with Newt—but he has made many enemies in the GOP (for not rolling over for Mittens) and the DEMs who do not want to see him debate Obama. They Must break him! They will use Florida to do their evil work. He will be made into a drunken sot—with debased ideas —a racist, homophobe, with a Napoleon complex. Look to see the diatribe start today and be un-relenting. Any news will be forgotten to Get Newt. We must stick with him in this trial.
Does anyone really believe that when (not “if”)Newt gets the nomination the GOP establishment will fall in behind him for the general election? They will “Goldwater” him just like they did in 1964. I just can’t see that crew supporting him. Now matter, though, I would rather lose with Newt than win with Romney. I would be a meaningless victory in the long run.
Remember Reagan was called the “Teflon President” because nothing would stick to him?
I think Gingrich is developing his own non-stick coating.
Gingrich already has the eloquence and depth to promote and protect conservatism.....gained through his writings and speeches (just like Reagan).
Reagan was divorced as well.
I am not saying Gingrich is another Reagan, but he is similar in many, many ways.
I guess I’m sort of heavy with movie line analogies this evening, but when I read your comment I kept hearing the line from the first Star Wars Movie when the fighters were attacking the Death Star and the group leader kept saying, “Stay on target......stay on target....”
Another fitting quote might be "I find your lack of faith disturbing".
Almost every GOP candidate who announced has surged against Romney. Why? People don’t trust him. He is rightfully perceived to be the candidate of the “Establishment”, which, for all you old guard John Birchers means the “oligarchy” of bankers, globalists, elitists and invisible hand, back channel manipulators of markets and debt which are an anathema to patriots. These are the peckerwoods who got us into this economic mess and people know it. Romney and his handlers are not trusted for good reason. Anyhow, Newt is smarter and more capable of acting independently of those puppet masters.
