Romney camp marks anniversary of Gingrich House reprimand

Is the date Jan. 21 about to be a lot brighter for Newt Gingrich?

As South Carolina votes Saturday, Mitt Romney’s campaign sent a press release wishing Gingrich a “happy anniversary” for the House decision to reprimand him, which happened on Jan. 21, 1997.

Headlined “Happy 15th Anniversary, Mr. Speaker,” the release said, “Fifteen years ago today, Newt Gingrich became the first House speaker in American history to be reprimanded by his colleagues.”

Gingrich was investigated for tax irregularities and for campaign finance disclosure violations in the late 1990s. The matter, conducted when Republicans controlled the House, was settled when Gingrich paid a $300,000 fine and was reprimanded for violating House rules.

Romney's campaign has worked to deflect controversy over the release of his tax returns by focusing attention on Gingrich's ethics probe.

If this was Romney’s attempt at being a fighter, he simply came across as a jerk and an ass.

Hey Mitt (and various minions acting on his behalf)! Read much?

Another key and revealing moment last night came when Gingrich was confronted by a heckler who shouted out “When will you release your ethics report?"—an apparent reference to Romney's call earlier in the day for Gingrich to put out the documents relating to a congressional investigation of him in the Nineties. Gingrich got the same look in his eyes that filled them on Thursday night when King raised the open-marriage question at the debate: a mixture of glee and withering scorn. "Actually, if you would do a little research instead of shouting mindlessly, you would discover that the entire thing is available online in the Thomas system"—the online congressional database that Gingrich himself brought into existence as speaker in 1995—"and you can print it out," he fired back. "I think it is 900 pages. When you get done reading it, let me know if there are any questions." The crowd cheered loudly and then Gingrich delivered the coup de grace: "I assume you're for the candidate who 's afraid to release his income taxes."

Is Paul Begala on Romney’s staff?

Well 1/21 now has significance for Romney - when SC kicked him to the curb.

You reap what you sow, mitt!

And don’t forget the cake that the Romney camp sent to Gingrich..congratulating him on his 15 year anniversary.
Tack taken to a new level.

I’m not a huge fan of any of the likely candidates at this point, but Romney is revealing the inner ahole that comprises his core being...and which he has gone to great lengths to conceal.

Is he doing this to deflect attention from his own tax information that came out this week?

This is a pretty pathetic slash. If I received one of those phone calls and I’d been undecided, I’d have thrown the lever for Newt.

A Gentleman, would have congratulated Newt on his win and told him that he would see him in Florida.

But No: Mitt has to go and make an ass of himself the day after the Primary.

I want this classless POS for President? Not me boy. Money doesn’t buy class and Mitt has the trappings , but not the class.

“the inner ahole that comprises his core being.”

A truly classic line. Thank you for posting it.

FUMR

I will never vote for that socialist turd. He is Obama but less likeable and less genuine.

If he is the nominee, I will take my chances with a 3rd party Ron Paul (you know it’s going to happen)

Go Newt!

Why is it that I want to defend Newt on this crap? Probably because it’s OLD NEWS. That makes Mitt look petty. If Mitt wanted to hurt Newt, he’d hit him on his forays into liberal land; oh wait, he can’t do that, he’d choke on the hypocisy.

They sent a cake?

Hopefully, he sent back a piece with a note - “This is for you, join me in my success in SC and the next Jan 21, I get sworn in”.

I hope whoring herself out for $36,000 was worth it for Haley.

Her own state gave her a massive bitch-slap yesterday, and she will get another one during her next Primary.

That was my first thought also.

He is showing his true colors. He feels now is the time to use his old Raider talents and it will backfire on him.

Release your tax info Romney!
