Romney camp marks anniversary of Gingrich House reprimand
The Hill ^ | 01/21/12 | Jeremy Herb

Is the date Jan. 21 about to be a lot brighter for Newt Gingrich?

As South Carolina votes Saturday, Mitt Romney’s campaign sent a press release wishing Gingrich a “happy anniversary” for the House decision to reprimand him, which happened on Jan. 21, 1997.

Headlined “Happy 15th Anniversary, Mr. Speaker,” the release said, “Fifteen years ago today, Newt Gingrich became the first House speaker in American history to be reprimanded by his colleagues.”

Gingrich was investigated for tax irregularities and for campaign finance disclosure violations in the late 1990s. The matter, conducted when Republicans controlled the House, was settled when Gingrich paid a $300,000 fine and was reprimanded for violating House rules.

Romney's campaign has worked to deflect controversy over the release of his tax returns by focusing attention on Gingrich's ethics probe.

Is there a link to the cake story? I had not heard that.

Figures...Romney has all the same positions as Obama...it just makes sense that he would have the same lack of class.

Bobble-head Romney is no match for the Gingrich intellect and the Establishment GOP, in order not to upset the “status quo” knows this and will fight down and dirty to wrest the nomination away from anyone who would dare try to take it. Well, I for one am sick and tired of the Bobble-head politics and look forward to the courage of this contender, Newt Gingrich to show the world America is not or even close to the Third World nation this Hyphenated American now in the White House has tried to make it. Gingrich loves his country and has respect for its people....Obama never has either one.

If he is the nominee, I will take my chances with a 3rd party Ron Paul (you know it’s going to happen)

No, that is not the way. 3rd parties are a desperation attempt. Never work unless an existing party collapses. The GOP leadership has been working hard on that one by backstabbing the Tea Party and the Southern States vote. Very foolish.

Scorched earth campaigning by Romeny is so counter-productive and despicable. It sets up an atmosphere where no matter what happens, some portion of the R electorate will be hard pressed to vote for the nominee.

IF Romeny happened to become the nom, I’d hold my nose and vote for him, but almost everything he, his supporters, and his super-pac has done to date increases the drive to make sure he never sees the light of day as the nominee.

Good post. Surely, mitt, thought he had it in the bag - the media is behind him, the gov of SC, he has all the money, and managed to get loads of political endorsements - and then came Newt and the conservatives with little money and one vote apiece. LOL!! This already isn’t politics as usual. Kudos to the SC voters and Newt’s love for America - he fights like a Patriot!

Mormons don’t believe in forgiveness or accuracy - do they?

Great quote. Thanks for posting it. Can anyone post a synopsis of what really happened with the censure and fine (or whatever it was)? Newt really needs to hit this head on and defuse it as a general campaign issue now.

I can’t vote for Romney. He has exactly the same positions as Zero. You can’t even trust the judges he will appoint.

Socialism under a GOP banner is still socialism. I am a conservative first and GOP second.

Paul is at the bottom of folks I would support....but he is higher than Romney. At least I know what he believes in.

That being said, hopefully Newt renders this whole discussion moot.

Look, this not really a Mormon issue. (there is a place for that discussion)

This is about a Mitt character issue. It is about another totally phoney POL POS.

I lived in NM for many years. I know a lot of Mormons. I don’t agree with their religious choice. I know a lot about what Mormonism is.

But I was Republican County Chairman in a county in NM for a time in a largely Dem county, and the 3 groups I could always count on were: Rock Rib GOP Ranchers, Mormons, John Birchers. Sorry, but that is a fact.

Lets keep our eye on the ball, routing the Commie Dems.

God works by his own means and sometimes uses individuals that are not his people. (example: Cyrus the Great)

Ethics Committee Drops Last of 84 Charges Against Gingrich

It's all here. A Federal Judge threw the case out that was filed by the libs. The pantywaist GOP 'ethics' panel was scared of the libs and fined Newt even though the 'ethics panel decided to take no further action because there is no evidence that "Rule 45" violations are continuing in the speaker's office ...'
