Teacher: It's a feeling of us vs. them
Odessa American ^ | 1/22/12 | Cayler Ballinger

Cleaning out years of projects and student art from her classroom was an emotional process for Teri Cowan, but she felt it was her only choice. Cowan worked for the Ector County Independent School District for 23 years, 13 of those years teaching Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate sophomore English at Odessa High School. She was teacher of the year for the 2010-11 school year at the high school and secondary teacher of the year for ECISD for the 1995-96 school year. As well as volunteering as the National Honor Society, prom and class council sponsors. Tuesday, Jan. 17, was

blah blah

What is the gist of this article? I don’t like clicking links. This isn’t compelling enough to make me want to click it.

The fix is to end federal and leftist control of schools.

Sounds like nursing - too many hours checking boxes, not enough patient care.

Family issues - sure her family was having issues if she had to work 12 hours a day.

The gist? Public education is a giant waste of money and an abject failure.

The collaborative’s goal is to provide a quality curriculum support system to Texas K-12 schools. TESCCC has developed CSCOPE, a comprehensive, customized, user-friendly curriculum support system. In addition to the curriculum, CSCOPE encompasses resources for the implementation, monitors the curriculum and establishes an accountability process to ensure a quality implementation.

The curriculum component of CSCOPE is based on best practice models from top researchers. Lessons are all aligned with the TEKS/TAKS and each lesson meets the highest standards of rigor and relevance.
____

Could any good ever come out of the above? It’s from Cscope’s website. TESCCC sounds very much like The Organization Formerly Known As JCAHO, the hospital accrediting bureaucrats who set up hoops for people who actually take care of patients to jump through.

I concur with this teacher’s comments. My career as a Texas teacher ends with this school year. I’ve had it with know-nothing school boards, underqualified-but-overpaid superintendents, idiot principals and their unrealistic, CYA demands on teachers. I’ve had it with the federal government’s nose in the tent.

Teachers (at least in Texas) are being driven out by demands made on them. You’d have to be out of your mind to go into teaching. I told my daughter in-law not even to consider the field of education.

Another example of money being spent on bureaucrats, buses, and buildings.

USA education is a mess.

It starts with Federal Dept of Education who direct the State Dept’s of Education, who in turn direct the local school districts to create bureaucratic structures that cannot be dissolved and unions to protect the employees.

Meanwhile our kids are getting screwed by facing the future with an inadequate education.

They need to get back to the basics for one thing. They need to cut out the perverted stuff and the leftist crap.

If I were still teaching, I’d invite you to my classroom. There’s no “perverted stuff” or “leftist crap.” My school district is in the middle of one of the reddest counties in Texas. We hate perverted stuff and leftist crap. We pledge allegiance and have a moment of silence every day of the school year.

I thought so too. I have neices who go to Texas schools. Their homework assignments amaze me with their leftist bias. My 13 year old neice was invited to an after school program called “Big Decisions”.... it’s all about sex being their choice.

I look through history books and english books and the leftist bias is just amazing.

From the article:

“However, she said she spent hours each day on the computer trying to enter each detail of lesson plans as part of Eduphoria, which is a software tool for teachers to track student progress and teachers to input lessons.”

Anybody who wants to know what Obamacare will look like, just read the above.

Since pretty much anybody who gets through college can teach at some level, we’re unlikely to run out of teachers (we’ll lose lots of good teachers with this garbage, but there will be new people to take their place).

On the other hand, physicians, most of whom are among the very best in their classes, won’t put up with that sort of MickeyMouse crap - and when they bail on the profession, they’ll be tough to replace.

I’ve worked as an assistant teacher in special ed. My question is this- why can’t the office assistants handle this? Let the teachers teach, let the administrators administrate.

I for one, appreciate the post. I have watched this and similar events unfold in schools right in my own neighborhood. Two of my neighbors are getting out of the profession. Twenty-three and 17 years respectively. One of them is also a Teacher of the Year. Her students (6th grade) test at the highest levels in Math and Writing consistently.
The teachers have to work 12 hours a day. They’re exhausted at the end of each day and still have homework. Plus, they feel threatened constantly with job loss because administration is threatened constantly because the ditricts are threatened constantly because the state is threatened constantly by the Feds. The kids don’t matter.

Same thing at hospitals. Just a different profession. Hardly any personal attention because nurses are spending 75% of their shift hours on the computer filling in paperwork and reports. Patients don’t matter.

We loose.

“Sounds like nursing - too many hours checking boxes, not enough patient care.”

Done so that some faceless bureaucrats in make work jobs can say that they have collected and filed the data from the checked boxes.

Making changes/decisions based on the data - surely we gest. Actually that’s probably a good thing - I shudder to think what decisions such people would make. They already screw up enough. (see my tagline)

Yep, as long as “educators” have performed their sacred environmental brainwashing, who cares if our children can do simple arithmetic.

It’s how they ‘feel’ about numbers that matters.
