GOP Strategist: Republican Establishment Fears Down-Ballot Disaster If Newt Wins Nomination
Breitbart News ^ | January 23, 2012 | Wynton Hall

Posted on 01/23/2012 10:47:02 AM PST by redstateone

On the heels of Newt Gingrich’s trouncing of Mitt Romney in the South Carolina primary, Republican Party brass are privately expressing deep concerns that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich’s high unfavorable rating in national polls could prove catastrophic to the so-called “down ballot”–the House and Senate races under the presidential race–and may even threaten the Republican Party’s control of the House of Representatives...

Seems to me that since Newt survived the time-tested smear of infidelity, multiple wives, and ‘ethics’ violations, there should be little worry when it comes to the down ballot.

This article doesn't have anything to do with this cycle being "Romney's turn", does it?

What about the down-ballot effect of choosing Romney?

Republicans could end up being so bored or disgusted by his milquetoast campaign that they wouldn’t show up anyway.

And, to repeat, IF MITT IS THE NOMINEE, THE ELECTION IS LOST ANYWAY.

So .... Let’s take our chances with the Truth, and trust that this time, without Bog Media having a free hand to spew their propaganda - what happened in 2008 - this time America will see what a fraud and fake Obama is.

Total BS. Look at the very high turnout in South Caroline in very bad weather with tornado warnings. With these high enthusiastic Conservative turnouts it will help the downstream candidates. GO LEROY GO!

“GOP strategist Steve Schmidt, who previously served as Sen. John McCain’s senior campaign strategist”

Schmidt is the ass-wipe attack dog for Mutt supporter, Juan MeCain.

Schmidt is the one responsible for some of the bad Palin press coming out during the MeCain/Palin 2008 campaign.

And well they should fear. None of the Sen. or Reps. have represented the people or the Constitution as they swore to do. They should ALL be kicked out!!

This is nonsense. What the republican establishment fears is downballot victories for conservatives! In the 1980 election, liberals were mowed down across the country. Republicans gained 12! seats in the senate and something like 30 in the house. McConnell and Boehner are worried they’ll be swept out of their cushy leadership positions.

A truly conservative house and senate, combined with a conservative president can really shake up the government.

Both the democratic and republican establishments want a moderate to win the republican nomination so there will be a close election and the gravy train can keep flowing to both sides.

A massive blowout in a conservative direction ruins everything they’ve been trying to put back in place since Reagan’s landlides upset their apple cart.

The GOP ran supposedly the “most electable” candidate in 2008 with John McCain who would “appeal” to moderates and independents. (The way the MSM fawned over McCain one would think he was the “most electable” ever). The GOP lost a net 8 senate seats and net 21 house seats.

I want a list of the “GOP Establishment” members that are saying this stuff.

I keep hearing all the media saying it. What GOP Politicians are saying this?

Santorum was probably always leading in Iowa. Romney was probably never leading in SC. As the elections neared, the BS polls were forced to correct themselves.

But with “unfavorable rating in national polls”, that kind of garbage can go on forever.

Is it any surprise they attack Gingrich like this?

Of course not!

****Let’s take our chances with the Truth,****

Before I slammed the ‘mute’ button - I actually heard Ann Coulter screaming that Newt would lose the General election if he called Obama “that Kenyan Socialist”.

Hasn’t she herself used that description?????

‘To anger a conservative - tell a lie - to anger a liberal - tell the truth’. Windflier tag.

The Tea Party is rising up to take control and throw out the RINOs controlling the GOP in Washington. It is scaring the hell out of them. Time to “refresh the tree of liberty”

Yea, the same Steve Schmidt who ran Rob Cornellies’s campaign in Oregon against David Wu in 2010.

The guy was so lame he totally missed all the media coverup of Wu’s out of control life until it came out 6 months later.

I’ve felt for years Steve Schmidt is an DNC Infiltrator designed to leak strategy and give bad advice.

If that is their fear, then they need to get with the "People's" agenda, which is restoring the ideas of liberty to the "American mind" (Jefferson)--just as they existed when Thomas Jefferson articulated them in our Declaration of Independence in 1776. That act brought along "down-ballot" support for individual freedom and limits on coercive government power when its principles were incorporated into the written Constitution in 1787.

By the way, who appointed the GOP establishment to select the "People's" President?

These were the same people that said last year that their primary goal in 2012 was winning a senate majority and increasing their house majority—NOT winning the presidency.

We know why and we're not going to take their s*** anymore!

Their logic is horsecrap. We have a majority now in the house because of the tea party. The tea party supports newt by a vast majority. Newt as the candidate will bring us an even bigger majority in the house and a majority in the senate. Mitt will not, in fact, we will likely lose seats if Mitt is the candidate.

There really is a risk. What gets you the presidency can ruin the outcome in the congressional races. That said, you can also be too smart by half.

Putting a wuss on the ballot can cost you as well, if Republican voters are so disgusted that they are unmotivated to show up.

You use the phrase “shake up.” Isn’t that where Palin comes in to stir the TEA party movement to action?

I am so sick and tired of the wussy republicans and republican party that won’t go after the Marxist in the White House afraid that the American people won’t be behind you if you stand up. We want another Reagan and Newt is it! He is the conservative champion to further our cause he is for everyone liberal, conservative, Black, White, purple it don’t matter to Newt. He will tear up the Republican establishment and will Change how Washington is done...

GOP strategist Steve Schmidt, who previously served as Sen. John McCain’s senior campaign strategist... [said] "With Newt Gingrich as the nominee of the party, [the GOP-controlled congress], is perhaps, all up in the air."

You mean we would have a down-ballot disaster like the time we did when we nominated McCain and Steve Schmidt ran the campaign?
