“The Contitution requires that a Member of Congress not be detained. But this Administration doesnt give a damn about the Constitution.”
I was very surprised that Paul seemed to turn this into a “citizens rights” issue, when he is actually much MORE than a citizen, he is an elected member of the legislative branch, and, to be more specific, MY elected official.
There was, and is, a damn good reason for that paragraph in the Constitution. And, in fact, he WAS delayed and missed some of his duties in his role an elected official. That, it seems, is more than enough.
“It is rare ANYWHERE to be able to get a cop in the field to admit hes detaining you. They simply refuse to answer the question, while continuing to refuse to permit you to leave.”
Or to put it in more real life terms ‘Am I under arrest?’ - ‘DO YOU WANT TO BE UNDER ARREST?’
The clock starts ticking when you ask that question. Judges take a very dim view of any time spent with that question unanswered. Of course, with you being tasered and injured while “resisting arrest”, that won’t do you any actual good.
Seems to me that The good Senator should have Mr Carney put on the NO-FLY List, then start hearings on the TSA defunding and abolition.
The last time I went through a full body scanner, I was asked to raise my right arm as I exited and the TSA agent peaked into my shirt sleeve. He then told me I was done with the scan.
“The TSA detains a US Senator en route to Washington, who has identified himself and is unarmed”
And the uproar over it is less than overwhelming. There is a reason the Constitution states that legislators cannot be detained coming or going from the Capital. Think about it. If somebody who shall remain nameless decided to declare himself president for life. He might just want to keep the legislators from getting to the floor of Congress to pass a resolution to stop him.
I think Rand Paul is making a big mistake by not making a huge stink out of this and the GOP leadership should be doing the same thing. In fact all 100 senators should be screaming bloody murder over it. But they are not which tells you how far advanced our police state really is.
