Gingrich Frames the Debate
The American Spectator ^ | January 25, 2012 | Peter Ferrara

Posted on 01/25/2012 5:49:35 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Before this campaign is over, America will know who Saul Alinsky is, even if Mitt Romney does not.

" Let me just say that I believe the debate we're going to have with President Obama over the next eight or nine months is the outlining of the two Americas:

The America of the Declaration of Independence v. the America of Saul Alinsky; the America of paychecks v. the America of food stamps; the America of Independence v. the America of Dependence; the America of strength in foreign policy v. the America of weakness in foreign policy.

Those two choices, I believe, will give the American people a chance to decide permanently whether we want to remain the historic America that has provided opportunity for more people of more backgrounds than any country in history, or whether, in fact, we prefer to become a brand-new, secular, European-style, bureaucratic socialist system."

In so summarizing his South Carolina victory speech last week, Newt Gingrich framed the debate against President Obama with a clear vision that will sharply clarify the choice the American people will have to make this year."

Do we want the America of the Declaration of Independence? Or the America of radical Marxist revolutionary and social manipulator Saul Alinsky? One TV commentator indicated that most Americans do not even know who Saul Alinsky was. But that is exactly why Gingrich is so right to frame the debate this way, because with Barack Obama as their President, Americans need to know who Saul Alinsky was, and when Gingrich is done with his campaign, every American will.

Byron York: “What really happened in the Gingrich ethics case?”

..........................The bottom line: Gingrich acted properly and violated no laws. There was no tax fraud scheme. Of course, by that time, Gingrich was out of office, widely presumed to be guilty of something, and his career in politics was (seemingly) over.

Back in January 1997, the day after Cole presented his damning report to the Ethics Committee, the Washington Post’s front-page banner headline was “Gingrich Actions ‘Intentional’ or ‘Reckless’; Counsel Concludes That Speaker’s Course Funding Was ‘Clear Violation’ of Tax Laws.” That same day, the New York Times ran eleven stories on the Gingrich matter, four of them on the front page (one inside story was headlined, “Report Describes How Gingrich Used Taxpayers’ Money for Partisan Politics”). On television, Dan Rather began the CBS Evening News by telling viewers that “only now is the evidence of Newt Gingrich’s ethics violations and tax problems being disclosed in detail.”

The story was much different when Gingrich was exonerated. The Washington Post ran a brief story on page five. The Times ran an equally brief story on page 23. And the evening newscasts of CBS, NBC, and ABC — which together had devoted hours of coverage to the question of Gingrich’s ethics — did not report the story at all. Not a word.

Gingrich himself, not wanting to dredge up the whole ugly tale, said little about his exoneration. “I consider this a full and complete vindication,” he wrote in a brief statement. “I urge my colleagues to go back and read their statements and watch how they said them, with no facts, based on nothing more than a desire to politically destroy a colleague.”

Now, Gingrich is saying much the same thing in the face of Romney’s accusations. And despite the prominence of the matter in the GOP race, few outsiders seem inclined to dive back into the ethics matter to determine whether Gingrich deserves the criticism or not. But if Gingrich is to have any hope of climbing out from under the allegations, he’ll have to find some way of letting people know what really happened.”

This is the impact of Newt: whether you like him or not, he does not follow the typical consultant’s advice to simply play to the American voter as he/she is. No, Newt will damned well attempt to educate that voter.

This is what every feckless clueless political strategist inside Washington cannot or will not understand.

But Newt understood it in 94. Reagan did in 80. The tea party did in 2010. No revolutionary elections ever happen without “education” on the right. Oh, conservatives might avoid “losing” an election here or there without teaching, but conservatives never “win” without teaching.

Newt has the audacity to teach. The consultants and their little forumlas go into panic. Apparently, it’s working .

I liked his speech after the win in SC and hopefully he will continue with the great pressure on Romney and especially Obama and when he continues the spelling out of what Obama has done and is doing the MSM will have to report it or else stay silent on election stories.

I also thought Newt had the best closing statement for Monday nights debate.

Go Newt!!!

The media is all in with Pelosi and other elites to take him out now! When the GOP establishment, the marxist Democrat party, and the media are all against you, you know you’re with the right guy!

Well said. What is needed is somebody able to articulate a clear position and get the American public to understand WHY it's the best direction, rather than mouth slogans like "Hope and Change".

Thanks for posting this. Finally, a nartional republican figure is very near the point of calling Obama exactly what he is - a Marxist.

Which is one of the reasons why letting the campaigns roll out some is a good thing.

The longer the candidates have to make their case, the more opportunities we have to get them on record and then hold them accountable later.

They need to know where their bread is buttered.

—One TV commentator indicated that most Americans do not even know who Saul Alinsky was—

But Americans have Google, and we know how to use it.

Now, drum-roll please... here comes the heresy... I believe that Newt is better at articulating and teaching conservatism than Ronaldus Magnus, and he will be better at handling the enemedia.

I am looking forward to the amphibian regime, but not the flames...

Remember how Sarah Palin was always in hot water with the McCain campaign for calling out Obama on his radicalism? Good times, good times.

McCain is only a shade less culpable for America’s current state than is Obama. His ‘maverick’ moniker is ironic - he’s the perfect example of everything thats wrong with the GOP. I despise him.
