The new standards were required by the 2010 school nutrition bill that increased funding for school meals. The new regulations, according to the Department of Agriculture, will:

Congress weakened proposed Department of Agriculture nutrition regulations in the spending bills approved last month following intense lobbying from the frozen pizza and potato industries. But consumer groups still praised the final rules unveiled Wednesday.

“First lady Michelle Obama on Wednesday unveiled tougher nutrition standards that school meals will have to meet starting this year.”

Since when does a FLOTUS have the ability bring about standards as law or requirements for funding. She is not a legislater, she is not an elected official. WTF!

My son refuses to eat the school food even tho it started a salad and pizza bar this week. He only eats high protein foods. Course as a football player he needs the additional protein in his diet for workouts.

Here’s a revolutionary & novel idea:

If parents are concerned about school cafeteria food quality, let THEM pack the kid a lunch. I don’t feed my daughter GMO or GE garbage, so I will be packing her lunch when she starts school

Whoops....I forgot. I’m too stupid to know how to parent my kid. It takes a village, er, government to do that. /s

Yes, and replacing it with soy protein, which is estrogenic & causes the feminization of boys. Ever notice all the dudes with moobs walking around??

Micro-management at its worst.

The federal government is going to tell every school system (no matter how big or small) what they should feed kids for lunch. Like they are too stupid figure out that the should serve more fruits and vegetables and cook less with lard.

Is there any area of life where people will stand up and say “It doesn’t matter if the federal government has some good ideas in this area, it’s just not an area the federal government should get involved in.”

She is an idiot. Whole grains are harder to digest and put more gluten into the bloodstream, affecting children’s feelings and behavior. Fat from healthy animals makes brains work better and keep the kids satisfied with their meals and less likely to eat junk. She is back in the old food pyramid days.

And children should bring their own lunches to school or pay for them there. Period. If a family cannot afford to pack a bag or have a few bucks for the kid’s lunch, let them apply to a private or religious charity. If it’s too easy to have kids and toss em into state taxpayer institutions, there is no need to wait til you are successful and married to have babies.

I have heard of a number of school systems that prohibit children from bringing lunch. You either eat the school provided lunch, or you don’t eat.

The justification is that is the only way to guarantee the children get at least one healthy meal a day.
