if Newt was the great white hope, why didn't he rocket to the top early on in Iowa and stay there,

I can give you my answer. Scozzafava.

I've always like Gingrich, but danged if he doesn't make it hard sometimes.

So the most I would give him was membership on my "top four": Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich and Cain. But watching them over the course of the campaign, I've decided that Gingrich is the one, baggage and all. Santorum is my #2.

Is there any big government program he left out?

Good Lord!

He belongs to the "Throw their rascals out so we can get OUR high-spending rascals in" crowd.

Can you tell me why there’s no news story on this? All this is a link with an adobe acrobat flyer downloaded. I don’t find a single story on this - especially if this is “devastating” news. It’s wierd.

If he was #1 in the polls, you would....but now it would be just beating a dead horse.

I guess I'm just amazed that in 10 short months America will decide whether to choose to continue with a marxist who is in the process of 'fundamentally transforming' America into a socialist hell or an imperfect, but for the most part conservative republican and here we are, ripping the sh*t out of the only two acceptable candidates available to us.

Are we stupid or what.

Santorum is a much better conservative than Newt is.

And anyone who doesn't understand that the means by which the "general welfare" is to be promoted is nothing other than the Constitution is not a conservative.

You make some good points - and regardless of what happens in this nomination process, the following will always be true about it:

Newt was running away with the field by attacking Obama and liberalism in general, including the media. Period. Then the entire field panicked, and the attacks started especially by the Paul campaign and the Romney PAC - but in some degree by all six other candidates at that point. That turned the entire thing into a food fight. Sadly Newt got dragged in the mess instead of using his new money to simply keep attacking Obama.

Newt responded with Bain, which was bad strategy. Santorum won Iowa by default, and has tried to over play his hand as this pure conservative which his 2006 campaign clearly shows is a ridiculous statement. He frankly is more liberal than Mitt in a lot of ways. Sad to say.

Now we might be left with Mitt, who like Obama, will act nice and mild and let his minions pull the dirtiest tricks possible. And yes, all of this has taken away from the marxist in the White House.

In order, here is who I blame for the infighting, in order.

Bachmann in the debates
Paul in debates
Paul’s ads.
Mitt’s PAC
Mitt’s campaign
Santorum in the debates
Mitt in the debates
Newt’s PAC

Newt tried to keep it on Obama (and so did Cain) - but it was not possible.

Where to start? The Pharmacare plan was the biggest state intrusion to health care until Obama’s Healthcare bill.

The problem is all three of them (Romney, Newt and Santorum)are not exactly conservative.

I agree with most of what you said, but reject your contention that Santorum had anything to do with driving this campaign into the gutter. He was doing nothing worse than campaigning, and not even necessarily that negatively.

We can thank Paul and Romney for the food fight, exclusively.
