Why You Should Spend a $2 Bill at Starbucks on Feb. 14
The Truth About Guns ^ | 25 January, 2012 | Robert Farago

Posted on 01/26/2012 9:48:22 AM PST by marktwain

As you may know, TTAG commentator Greg responded to a Valentine’s Day Starbucks boycott by the National Gun Victims Action Council by organizing a BUYcott. He’s asking gun owners to reward Starbucks for its letter-of-the-law firearms policy by buying a beverage or food item with a two dollar bill (a suggestion made by NukemJim, the bill representing the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms) on the 14th of Feb. Not forgetting to “thank the clerk for Starbucks’ support of the Constitution.” Ahead of Starbuck’s Appreciation Day–which has already well and truly gone viral—our own Tim Tritt contacted the Seattle coffeesmith to voice his support for their support for gun rights. The company emailed him the following . . .

Dear Tim,

Thank you for contacting Starbucks Coffee Company.

Thank you for your feedback regarding Starbucks’ policy on open carry laws.

At Starbucks, we deeply respect the views of our customers and recognize that there is significant and genuine passion surrounding the issue of open carry weapons laws. We comply with local laws and statutes in the communities we serve. Our long-standing approach to this issue remains unchanged and we abide by the laws that permit open carry in 43 U.S. states. Where these laws don’t exist, openly carrying weapons in our stores is prohibited.

As the public debate around this issue continues, we encourage customers and advocacy groups from both sides to share their input with their public officials. We are extremely sensitive to the issue of gun violence in our society and believe that supporting local laws is the right way for us to ensure a safe environment for both partners and customers.

If you have any further questions or concerns that I was unable to address, please feel free to let me know.

Warm Regards,

Kelsey F

If I am anywhere near a Starbucks on the 14th, I will buy something there. I might even dig up a $2 bill to do it with.

“I might even dig up a $2 bill to do it with.”

I asked at my bank, a few months ago, for some $2 bills. They didn’t have any!

Hmmm, I don’t have a $2 bill. Any idea where I can get one?

Where’s my “Lawful Gun Owner” stamp? It’s great for the backs of paper money you spend at Starbucks.

We could buy something to support their gun stance, and then return it to protest their support of same-sex marriage...or the other way around

Can I even get something there for 2 bucks? Maybe a small black coffee.... We might make it a field trip. Hope they are friendly to home schoolers.

To get $2 bills, you have to go to the bank and ask. If they don’t have any, they can request them on your behalf. Tell them how many you want. It might take a week or so.

Wow. I normally feel dirty buying a Starbucks drink when shopping in Safeway, but I guess on 14 February I can be proud to purchase a drink from a lefty establishment. That is why I don’t pay much attention to the boycotts because every establishment has good and bad and it is just to exhausting trying to keep up.

Exactly. I love Starbucks coffee. But I love Ferarris too. Both are over priced and not worth the value.

I'd rather spend the money to make a statement and consider the coffee complimentary.

Your local neighborhood strip club has them (I'm told.) It's the suggested gratuity, now.

I liked that decision they made yet seems like an end around play being made by the company to keeps CHL/CCW sorts out if state laws prevent carry in businesses where over 51% of income is from alcohol consumed on the premises like Texas has. Doubt starbucks will ever make more than 51% here in Texas on alcohol “consumed on premises” versus coffee yet.....???

They are moving to sell alcohol as well as coffee.......

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-01-24/starbucks-to-add-alcohol-at-more-cafes-to-lure-evening-customers.html

I will drive 100 miles to spend that 2 dollars for a cup of joe. Can ya actually buy anything in a Starbucks for 2$ .....????

Hmm..

I guess I still don't understand the whole "open carry" debate.

You wanna wear a firearm? Conceal it. No issues, no worries. Why do some feel the need to "show it off" with open carry? Personally, if I carried a firearm, I would want that "element of surprise" "oh s&^%T!!" from the bad guy-thing versus the "shoot the guy wearing the gun"- thing. Is it a "nose of the camel under the tent" kind of issue? I guess I could understand that, but gee whiz folks, let's not shoot ourselves in the foot about this.

You know, they are just regular people behind the counters. I go quite often and I’ve never once heard them ask if someone was a home-schooler. I suppose if you go in and announce it, someone may talk to you about it.
