When CNN convenes its GOP debate tonight, the moderators should tell the audience to shut up.

The Monday night debate REALLY WAS a disaster.
Which means it worked out EXACTLY as NBC intended it to.

7.5 MILLION PEOPLE tuned in to see the candidates, only to see a dry, boring debate with questions about Castro dying, and Swamp Restoration Programs.

Not ONE SINGLE WORD about taxes, high gas prices, unemployment, etc. and the words “BARACK OBAMA” were not uttered ONCE by the moderator.

Frankly, I’m not surprised by any of this. Tonite’s debate is for all the marbles.

insufferably partisan debate audiences last week

A partisan audience at a REPUBLICAN debate? I hope I'm not the only one who sees the stupidity of this statement! Guess we need more Democrats in the Audience so it's not so partisan!

Well, in the run up to the last election, Obama spoke mostly before carefully vetted audiences, consisting almost entirely of party operatives, their families, and SEIU union thugs.

There were a few exceptions, when he arranged to speak at a rock concert—in Berlin, and at the riverside in Oregon. These events were carefully chosen, too. Obviously a rock concert in Oregon, for instance, would draw mostly leftists, because that’s who lived in that area.

The rock concerts were the only time that the MSM depicted vast audiences. Otherwise, the cameras were very careful not to show that Obama spoke to small, carefully selected crowds.

Presumably, the MSM debate moderators will arrange things in similar fashion this time around. Don’t expect them to let in a lot of Tea Partiers. Maybe a few fake Teabaggers with nasty signs, like the last time.

10 ‘I’s in 5 lines. Wow. He sure thinks a lot of hisself, don’t he?
My English writing prof would have had the whole paragraph full of red checkmarks and a sarcastic remark at the bottom.

It is vital for the MSM to silence the masses. Look no further than Joe the Plumber. When the crowd is suppressed with silence, the MSM can interpret and spin reaction to debate performance. Crowd reaction at a debate takes power from the hands of the MSM

two insufferably partisan debate audiences

Oh, there you go! Shut out the hoi polloi! We don't want any of that "partisanship."

Damn! I've never seen political elites in such a complete panic. We've got to get off our butts, people.

Newt’s first answer should start out by reminding the audience that CNN doesn’t have the power to take away their right to free speech. CHEERS, STANDING O,

And Newt should ask the moderator if that extends to swooning and members of the press?

(gads, I hope someone from his campaign gets to see this. Tea Partiers would go nuts!)

"Another FReeper said the debate is being stacked with Romney supporters."

That is worthy of its own thread to get the word out to local non-RINOs. Do you recall where you saw that info?

If they are not going to let the audience participate, then Gingrich should not participate. Instead of answering the questions the moderators ask, he should answer the questions that we would ask. He should ignore the questions entirely and just hammer the issues that are important to us.

They will ask about Gingrich's skeletons and Gingrich should respond by talking about Obama's skeletons and Romney's record.

I didn't watch the last debate. Apparently I didn't miss anything. But if Gingrich can turn the tables on the MSM, I'll be watching like a hawk.

My belief is that tonight CNN mods will go for the coup de grois by starting off with questions to Newt about all of these stories on Drudge and elsewhere. Its going to be a get Newt fest. I hope I’m wrong but I doubt it.

The author is a good argument for the reestablishment of the appropriate political use for tar, feathers and wooden rails ...and possibly code duello.

I’m sure they could hold a debate in an empty studio but the networks WANT the appearance that this is a public forum and that idle people wandered over to watch the debate as independent engaged citizens.

Most debates are actually pep rallies for the politically connected. The audiences are rarely not a collection of rival paid supporters.

Frankly, I’d rather see a debate where the moderators shut up.

Face it, Newt COULD have gone over the moderators heads and got the audience to respond, but for whatever reason he choose not too. I hope he never makes that mistake again, because prevent defense is an awful strategy for anyone especially a movement leader.

EXCELLENT point! If the audience aren’t permitted to be anything other than a bunch of mutes, then what’s the point of even having them there???

I subscribe to Entrepreneur magazine and their latest edition has an article on veterans who went into the business for themselves. One of the ex-Marines who has a start-up in Silicon valley explained “we want to be independent because we have been taking orders for so long”.

That’s what I’m afraid may happen, too. Everyone who’s seen a typical Romney campaign speech has seen first hand how he garners little more than a lukewarm blazay reaction from his supporters in attendance. If the audience is stacked with vocal Romney people tonight, I’m going to be LIVID because it would clearly be a fraudulent set-up!

If CNN muzzles the audience, Newt should say the following.

"The lack of respect for the First Amendment by CNN, even though they are protected by the SAME amendment, compels me to leave this venue."
" CNN should be ashamed of stifling others First Amendment rights while enjoying the protections of the same right. Thank you for the invitation, but I would prefer to be in a venue where participation is encouraged, rather than censored."
