Newt Gingrich: elites foreclosed on Floridians, used $ to help Romney in 'desperate last stand'

Speaking in friendly territory -- before a tea party crowd of about 500 in Central Florida's bucolic Mount Dora -- the former House Speaker savaged Mitt Romney, the campaign ads that have been pillorying Gingrich across the state -- and his own Republican party.

Gingrich wasted little time in criticizing Romney as he took to the stage with his wife, Calista, decrying the "attack ads and all sorts of junk" and charging that Romney is hypocritical for attacking him for Freddie Mac when he has stock in it.

"He thinks we're going to back down, I don't think so," he said.

"This is the desperate last stand of the old order, throwing the kitchen sink, hoping something sticks because if only they can drown us in enough mud -- raised with money from companies and people who foreclosed on Floridians," he said. He charged Romney and his super PAC ads were "paid for with the money taken from the people of Florida, by companies like Goldman Sachs."

The Romney campaign issued an all-caps email with the headline and subtitle that read: "UNHINGED: DR. NEWT AND MR. HYDE...GINGRICH LEADS “OCCUPY MOUNT DORA"

But Gingrich, who had been surging in the Florida polls, said the race is now "very close" and that he believes the "weight of the negative ads" and what he called Romney's "dishonesty," had "hurt us some."

He called on the tea partiers to start working harder. "This group alone is big enough to start to turn this around," he said, declaring he wouldn't allow the "monied interests" to defeat him.

Gingrich is clearly banking on support from Florida's tea party -- which helped elect Marco Rubio and Rick Scott in 2010 and he thanked the crowd, some of whom wore tea party t-shirts.

Looks like we have a ball game now.

It seems to be beat up Newt day from people we think are on our side. Newt needs to punch back, cause it’s all Romney-tied.

All the sites like NR and Drudge and Coulter are going to talk about how this means Newt is going socialist and engaging in class warfare. The problem is, conservative Tea Partiers have been saying for years that the wealthy northeastern establishment has been using compassionate-sounding big government rhetoric to give themselves taxpayer money under the table, and get special contracts from government programs that help no one except the contracters, and special de facto regulatory-crafted monopolies. All of these things grow the size and scope of government and destroy our nation's fiscal situation.

If the GOP establishment wins the battle of Romney vs. Gingrich, it will lose the war of Romney vs. Obama. Romney will depress the vote so much that he’ll finish further behind than McCain.

Newt did run a positive campaign, and Romney ran a dirty campaign to win Iowa (but still failed). I remember Newt in the early debates saying they shouldn’t be attacking each other but focusing their fire on Obama.

I am finally ready to make my public declaration: I will not vote for Mitt Romney under any circumstances whatsoever. Period. I don’t care if that is a “vote for 0bama.” Really, what is a vote for 0bama? It’s a vote for socialism. What is a vote for Romney? It’s also a vote for socialism.

So what’s the difference?

Frankly, in my moment of cyncial depression today, I don’t think it matters anyway. Our government no longer operates for the good of the American people, but only for the elites of both parties that really run the country and sell us out to foreign powers.

Newt is right. We need to get the word out. They protest too much. Something is amiss here. Hello Florida, we have a problem: it’s called Mitt Romney. Will Florida let him buy this election with the money his buddies took from the housing market? Really, unbelievable.

if the north east beltway elitist establishment thinks the rest of the country is like them then they have another thing coming.

We are not like the north east or DC and we don’t go to the cross dressing homosexual elitist cocktail parties and then take money from these groups like they do.

The GOP has declared war on the base now and they actually think we will get behind them when all this is done, NO CHANCE THEY LOST ME IF ROMNEY WINS

The poles came out yesterday showing how high Gingrich was above Romney. They had to DO something.

Hope it backfires big time.

All on here need to get in touch with those here in FL and tell them what the establishment is doing and that they need to get out to vote and stop the establishment and tell them that FOX and others are in with the attacks of the establishment.

We now have got to get the word out to all we know in FL, do not let any republicans be fooled again by these elitist cronies

There’s talk about the Romney family having ties to Saul Alinsky. Romney’s dad is said to have praised Alinsky.

If Limbaugh doesn’t discuss this—in detail—very soon, I can’t think of any good reason for conservatives to continue listening to his program.

ok, so get Mittens elected. Get used to saying President Obama for four more years. Worse you could be saying President Romney, and watch has he systmatically destroys the conservative movement. I will not support Mitt Romney in the general election.

Gingrich sounds like the left wing Occupy-and-poop bunch to me. Since when is it a crime to be wealthy? Gingrich is a fat ass hypocrite - the ultimate Washington insider making $25,000 from Freddie and Fannie to do nothing. IBTZ

"Since when is it a crime to be wealthy.."

If I was a wealthy crook..giving capitalism a bad name for fifty years, privatizing gains and socialism losses on the backs of the tax payers...I would love you.

Capitalism has been perverted...we need to take it back.
