Mike Reagan, Rush Limbaugh Blast Romney
Newsmax ^ | 1/26/2012 | Jim Meyers

Posted on 01/26/2012 2:54:10 PM PST by Raebie

Ronald Reagan’s eldest son Mike Reagan has issued a statement lambasting Mitt Romney and his supporters for claims that Romney’s Republican presidential rival Newt Gingrich was a strong critic of President Reagan. Reagan says such claims are false. Even Rush Limbaugh, shocked by the Romney claims, chimed on his Thursday radio broadcast to say "This is obviously a coordinated attack to take Newt out here in Florida." Rush slammed the Romney-backed smear campaign against Newt. “That kind of stuff is why people hate Romney so much," Limbaugh said. Limbaugh added that Newt has always been a conservative from his early days in national talk radio in the 1980s. “He was perhaps the premier defender of Ronald Reagan,” Limbaugh said. Note: Do You Support Gingrich or Romney? Vote in Urgent Poll — Click Here Now On Thursday, Mike Reagan, a respected conservative commentator, responded to the Gingrich critics with this statement to Newsmax: “I am deeply disturbed that supporters of Mitt Romney are claiming that Newt Gingrich is not a true Reaganite and are even claiming that Newt was a strong critic of my father. “Recently I endorsed Newt Gingrich for president because I believe that Newt is the only Republican candidate who has both consistently backed the conservative policies that my father championed and the only Republican that will continue to implement his vision. “It surprises me that Mitt Romney and his supporters would raise this issue — when Mitt by his own admission voted for Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale who opposed my father, and later supported liberal Democrat Paul Tsongas for president. “As governor of Massachusetts, Romney’s achievement was the most socialistic healthcare plan in the nation up until that time.

Rush did not slam Romney. He tried his best to destroy Newt today along with the Establishment. He was rather enjoying it also.

This is better news than the other thread provided. Here:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2838305/posts

the transcript made Rush sound not at all supportive of Newt. Just the opposite.

Agreed.

Point being it appears Newsmax had to take an ad out on Drudge to even get this viewed. Disgusting.

I listened to Rush a little today and turned it off. Maybe I turnned it off to soon? I sent him this e-mail

Rush,

I just deleted heart radio from my IPad. The man I defended so long is gone and has been replaced with Chris Matthew of the right, you Rush. The elitist have given you the talking points and you are bowing down to them; you are now living on the Plantation.

I am a Santorum fan. Only a few percentage of the voting has been done and only God, and not you, knows the future. I know in your eyes people should just not bother to vote and just give it to Romney. We are not democrats, we don’t jump when told to jump. Remember you taught us to think, but your telling us now don’t think, just vote for Romney, without using words. Romney will NEVER get my vote. My navigator has more personality then Romney. More importantly, we don’t trust a liberal who saw the light just in time to run for president.

Even though Santorum is my first choice, Newt has something that no one on the right has: A spine. We are tired of the “my friends on the other side of the aisle” people. We did not put them there to be friends. We put them there to fight for the constitution and our beliefs. Newt is my second choice. No he is not perfect, who is? Not you, and not me. But he is willing to fight like no one else can.  If we give in to the establishment again, like we did with McCain, conservatism will be dead, and you of all people, are giving it the final death blows. We will not be used by the establishment, and people like you, again.

The silver lining is maybe a true third party will rise from this. The Conservative Party (C).

That was my impression. Anyone who does so, including Rush Limbaugh, can KMRA. Anything that avails Romney, ultimately avails Barack Obama.

Any questions?

I didn’t get that from him. It was Rush who pointed out that McCain’s support for Romney was like a loser supporting another loser.

I think Rush has pointed out time and again how Newt gives voice to those conservatives who have been ignored by the RINOs for years.

I don’t get why some FReepers are all upset with Rush today. I listened to his entire radio program and he’s simply saying he’s shocked by these Newt quotes and stories, yet acknowledges there is clearly a coordinated effort coming from somewhere to take Gingrich out and make Romney the nominee.

I don’t think even Rush knows what to believe anymore.

Something tells me this viscious attack on Gingrich is going to backfire big-time against Romney.

There is still 5 days to go and people are getting very tired of this constant Romney slime in their Florida mailbox, telephone, TV, and radio.

Voters are going to see this as Romney’s weakness that he has to resort to such tactics.

I am withholding fire on Rush Limbaugh because I only read the transcript of his remarks, didn’t hear the audio. And he has earned some benefit of the doubt. But in lifeboat ethic situations, I’d sooner save Newt.

Rush should be on the front lines countering the lies. Instead, he’s sitting around being befuddled while blogs and forums like this are doing the dirty work and figuring it out.

Well, you may have put your finger on the problem right there. The Rush Limbaugh I've listened to since I was a little girl, DOES know what to believe. I would find it very, very hard to believe that in a Newt-vs-Mitt contest, Rush does not know what to believe.

By the way, I love the conversation Rush had with a caller during the third hour of his radio program today, which illustrated how this scorched earth campaign against Gingrich is only firmly strengthening the resolve of Newt’s supporters because we WANT to back someone who is deeply unpopular with the Republican establishment and the Washington elite, NOT someone who wants to go to Washington to get along with everyone and continue the status quo of politics as usual!

He kept flip-flopping all day. I think the only thing he really cares about these days are football games and hawking iced tea.
