“Merely undesirable” - True character of nation revealed by 80% abortion rate for disabled

An 80 percent abortion rate of those with disabilities shows the need to restore a fundamental respect for human dignity in America, said Archbishop Charles J. Chaput of Philadelphia.

He underscored that the plight of disabled babies highlights “a struggle within the American soul” that will shape the future of the nation.

“These children with disabilities are not a burden; they’re a priceless gift to all of us,” the archbishop said. “They’re a doorway to the real meaning of our humanity.”

Archbishop Chaput delivered the keynote address at the 13th annual Cardinal O’Connor Conference on Life on Jan. 22.

The conference, which was held at Georgetown University, took place one day before the March for Life, at which hundreds of thousands of Americans annually gather in the nation’s capital to protest abortion and show their support for the dignity of all human life.

“Abortion kills a child, it wounds a precious part of a woman’s own dignity and identity, and it steals hope,” the archbishop said. “That’s why it’s wrong. That’s why it needs to end. That’s why we march.”

He warned that without a strong foundation of faith and morals, America becomes “alien and hostile” to its founding ideals. This threat is clearly demonstrated in the country’s treatment of the poor and disabled, which the archbishop said “shows what we really believe about human dignity.”

In his talk, Archbishop Chaput focused on children with Down syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects development, appearance and cognitive function, and can cause other health problems.

He observed that prenatal testing is now able to detect up to 95 percent of pregnancies that have a strong risk of Down syndrome, and more than 80 percent of the unborn babies who are diagnosed with the disorder are aborted.

Total bs. I believe there is a true conspiracy regarding “disabilities” and abortions doctors provoke patients to under go.

My bff was told her first 2 born had such a brain disability ( can't remember the name) and should be aborted. They forced her and her husband to go through horrible “genetic counseling”.

They refused to abort. The 1st is an extremely intelligent little 10 year old girl and her 2nd is a 7 year old “boys “ boy. NOTHING wrong with them.

She went on and had a 3rd..ALL perfectly healthy.

The powers that be have sunk to the level of Nazism, creating their master race. My wife & I were told the same about our third, wouldn’t abort (infuriating the “doctor”), and he was fine. I can only believe that they think abortion-on-demand will remain legal if we all have blood on our hands.

Her doctor was ticked off as well! Aren’t doctors supposed to SAVE life and NOT destroy it?

He also made then fell like poo, for not aborting.

My sister was living in Massachusetts when she became pregnant with her first child. The doctor told her that her baby had spina bifida and counseled her to have an abortion. She was devastated, but refused to have an abortion - her daughter was born just fine - no spina bifida or anything. Today, she is a beautiful and very talented 22 year old woman.

America is sinking fast.

“He also made then fell like poo, for not aborting.”

How enlightened; some people have no conscience. We are truly in a “post-Christian” America; abortion was one of the crimes against humanity for which Nazis were hung at Nuremberg. The Axis lost the war, but the Nazis won; we are what they were, and what we were is a distant memory in much of this country. Words like “father”, “family”, “church” are disappearing or being distorted into something else (certainly not what they were in 1945).

I’ve heard quite a few stories from ladies who’s doctors stated their unborn child has this or that and wanted, actually, more like coercing, them to abort.

They refused. All had healthy babies. Hence my conspiracy theory about population control.

Oh, and they were all white women as well. Don’t know if that plays into it, but you know how conspiracy theories work.

My daughter gave birth to a son with spina bifida. His disorder was not detected by tests. My daughter and her husband would not have aborted. The nurses thought it was a tragedy that she had not been able to abort.
Our grandson, now 3 1/2, is the light of our lives. He loves life, and is such a happy child. He takes his physical impairments in stride, but works hard at improving his mobility. He gets around by crawling or using a walker. All of us are living a “new normal,” but it’s a good place to be. We thank God for him every day.

I’ve talked to other women who have had similar experiences, in all cases their babies were born without the disability they were told they had. It’s quite disturbing, either the tests are not that accurate - or something more ‘sinister’ is going on.

How many parents went along with the counseling and killed their babies? It’s too horrible to think about.

I have several friends with different physical and mental issues that are commonly used as excuses to abort a baby (mental retardation, down’s syndrome, and others) - they are without a doubt, the happiest and most honest people I know. These people are a true treasure to get to know and it really is a blessing to know them. They are a gift from God, so sad that a lot of people see it completely opposite - it truly is their loss.

Thank you. My sister prayed long and hard, to this day, she thinks that God healed her baby. I don’t know if it was human error or a miracle - but I do know that my niece has a beautiful singing voice that can only be described as ‘angelic’. When she was a child she sang alot with the most beautiful voice & now she is studying music in college and singing where she can - she sings at a lot of weddings.

As her aunt, I might be a little biased - but I am very proud of her. She’s beautiful INSIDE too!

Then again, 20% of people who are told their baby is “defective” carry the baby to term anyway. That is of note. We’re not all killing disabled kids, even if they represent a frightening/expensive “threat.”

So good for the 20%.

I want to remind you, all of you FReepers that you pay your doctor that means he/she is your employee. He/she works for YOU. He/she makes you feel like this? FIRE HIM/HER!!
