Grand Marais Michigan is pretty attractive. Cold and snowy during the winter but its pretty much isolated from everywhere else.

A most favorite town. Went there with neighbors as a kid and finished working career in the assigned area. Deer move in during the winter.

Google up Houlton Maine for something similiar. It may even be more “remote”; I think basically it’s how you define it. It still has major medical facilities and a very conservative population. The economy is slightly better that the official numbers would lead you to believe because there is a great deal of subsistence work and the black economy is alive and well.

Thanks Cripplecreek. It is good to be reminded of why I am not in the lovely state of Michigan!
Michigan family ping-Key words-COLD & Isolated. I think I would rather live in North Dakota. At least you do not have to shovel snow EVERY day! The population in the UP is low but lots of people on public assistance. What happens up there if the SHTF? Do they still know how to hunt and fish, or has the use of the EBT card swiped them of that ability?

Looks like a nice little town...similar to the one I live about four miles out from. Since moving to the country I could not imagine living in even a small town any more. But there are times you just need to go into town...
