People With Low IQ Tend to be Socially Conservative: New Study (Barf, BS & Junk Science Alert)
International Business Times ^ | 1/27/12 | By AMRUTHA GAYATHRI:

In a new study, bound to stir controversy, researchers have found that people with low IQ tend to have socially conservative ideals and prejudiced attitudes toward others, including people of different races and homosexuals.

The new study published earlier this month in the journal Psychological Science found that British children with lower general intelligence factor (similar to IQ) are more likely to be racially prejudiced as adults.

"We found that lower general intelligence in childhood predicts greater racism in adulthood, and this effect was largely mediated via conservative ideology," lead researchers Gordon Hodson and Michael A. Busseri of Brock University, Canada, wrote in the abstract of the paper.

"We proposed and tested mediation models in which lower cognitive ability predicts greater prejudice, an effect mediated through the endorsement of right-wing ideologies (social conservatism, right-wing authoritarianism) and low levels of contact with out-groups."

The study was conducted using two "large-scale, nationally representative U.K. data sets (N = 15,874)," and a secondary analysis of a U.S. data set. The secondary analysis confirmed the effect of poor reasoning skills behind homophobia, caused by authoritarianism and low intergroup contacts.

The conservative attitudes were measured by whether people agreed with statements like "Family life suffers if mum is working full-time," and "Schools should teach children to obey authority."

Attitudes towards other races were assessed with statements like "I wouldn't mind working with people from other races," which served to capture overt racism, while excluding people with unconscious and covert racial biases.

"Our results suggest that cognitive abilities play a critical, albeit underappreciated, role in prejudice," the researchers told LiveScience.

Since there have been studies which established links between low levels of education and higher levels of prejudice, studying intelligence seemed a logical next step, the researchers said.

Simply put, the research findings are nothing short of calling social conservatives dumb. To be precise, the study, by and large, implicates social conservatives rather than the political conservatives.

However, the researchers have pointed out that the study doesn't imply that all conservatives are stupid and liberals intelligent.

"There are multiple examples of very bright conservatives and not-so-bright liberals, and many examples of very principled conservatives and very intolerant liberals," Hodson said.

LiveScience has published an article about the study, discussing its potential to upset people. "They've pulled off the trifecta of controversial topics," Brian Nosek, a social and cognitive psychologist at the University of Virginia who was not involved in the study, told Live Science. "When one selects intelligence, political ideology and racism and looks at any of the relationships between those three variables, it's bound to upset somebody."

This is nonsense.

I wonder how it would turn out if instead of IQ, they tested WISDOM!

Liberals have such an inflated idea of their goodness and intelligence. This morning our local newspaper had an article/OpEd by a man who writes once/month. He writes the difference in life philosophies of liberals and conservatives is “One loooks for the good in people and tries to create systems that help people to be better and do better. The other lays blame on idividuals and attempts to rid society of the systems that supposedly enable people’s evil instincts.” He subsequently tries to turn this concept into a pretzel where he says Conservatives blame people while Progressives believe that opportunities are enhanced by the understanding that we live in communities, hence we all need health care, etc, etc, etc,....

So, now you know how they can twist their BIG government ideas into making them appear to be better people.

Yes, because those 63 million “hope and change” zombies who obediently cast their vote for Obama are gifted with such high intelligence.

Well, I can tell you from years of observation that Liberals are amoral, tend toward prevarication, and prefer a fantasy reality to the one they actually inhabit.

People with high IQs tend to have inflated egos, exaggerate their importance in the universe, deny there is anything greater than themselves, reject the notion of a Higher Power and therefore His universal Truths and Laws.

People with high IQs also tend to have had much more exposure to, and thus their attitudes shaped by, liberal and marxist "educators".

Well they obviously believe their own work, and think conservatives must be stupid enough to believe this.

Lets look at one of the authors, Gordon Hodson

Some of Hodson’s publications:

Intergroup disgust sensitivity as a predictor of Islamophobia: The modulating effect of fear

Do ideologically intolerant people benefit from intergroup contact

Exploring the roots of dehumanization: The role of animal-human similarity in promoting immigrant humanization

Interracial prison contact: The pros for (socially dominant) cons

He looks like a bat poop crazy liberal, suffering from white guilt, and more fixated on race than those he accuses of racism.

Here’s his website, if you want to see his other work:

http://www.brocku.ca/psychology/people/hodson.htm

Here is his ‘research’ website:

http://www.brocku.ca/social-sciences/undergraduate-programs/psychology/research-labs/intergroup-lab

...complete with the ‘RACISM STOP IT!’ logo

Projection anyone?

...my IQ is only 131

That's what I scored on my last test.

My ex took the same test and got a 127. She emailed me and said, "I always knew you were smarter than me."

Oh my. So, if you want all people to have the opportunity to achieve as much success and wealth in life as possible (conservative), then you’re way more prejudiced than those people who want to give racial groups just enough to keep them poor and dependent (liberal)? These writers remind me of Hannibal Lecter.....really smart when talking, but still killing people. Come on! Drop your arrogance and come over to the people who truly are for equality of opportunity....the conservatives.

“One loooks for the good in people and tries to create systems that help people to be better and do better. The other lays blame on idividuals and attempts to rid society of the systems that supposedly enable people’s evil instincts.”

This is essentially right. And, they come to the conclusions they do because they start out with the lie that "people are basically good", and therefore, with the right environment, will exhibit good behavior, and that those who already behave well should be given the power to implement that environment.

Our side starts out from the truth that humans are fallen and limited in intellectual and moral ability, and will, if given enough power, exhibit their fallen nature in attempting to control their fellow human whilst enriching themselves.
