A woman plans to marry a partially demolished building in Seattle on Sunday.

Even though cranes have already started demo work at 10th and Union Warehouse, Babylonia Aivaz reports "I'm STILL Getting Married."

"Yes, I'm in love with a 107 year old building!," writes Aivaz on the wedding invite page on facebook.

The event will be a community potluck on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Aivaz writes that her relationship with the building began when she and a group of around 200 occupied the warehouse claiming it as a community space.

"The warehouse is slated to be demolished in a week to make way for luxury apartments whose destiny is to disintegrate our unique creative culture and render our neighborhood even more unaffordable. Why couldn't we have had a community artspace and museum there instead?" writes Aivaz.

Community members are invited to the event, and asked to bring food.

"Lets be together! Lets honor my love of this building and Capitol Hill, the idea of transformative power of community spaces, and each other," writes Aivaz.

I think she is trying to make a statement. She is, but it is of the one she intended. I’m guessing if artists and others of this type weren’t deadbeats, someone may think about building a nice place there.

Looks like Barney Frank and partner have lost “Top Tacky” to others who trash the meaning of marriage.

“So Capitol Hill, LOVE YOURSELF! Lets celebrate what we are: quirky, creative, open-minded, progressive love beings who absolutely love being. Lets be together! Lets honor my love of this building and Capitol Hill, the idea of transformative power of community spaces, and each other. It’s all we’ve really got at the end of the day!”

Don’t forget to sing Kumbaya you dimbulb.

I think she meant to say, "We adopted toilets." That way they could become dependents once she marries the building and get free health care.

She discovered that it was scientifically impossible for a building to chew it’s arm off and run away. Ergo....

Exactly. Some don’t see the profundity of it. Granted, the women may not have intended what we naturally conclude but it is a nice example of the slipery slope...

-—Quite a smart tactic, actually.-—

Yes, if that’s her objective. Legislators might have to define marriage as something greater than lifetime affection.

The rest of us don’t have those brick-and-mortar marriages.

“Have fun at the consummation, you nutjob.”

There might even be one. I saw something on TV years ago about some idiot who was in love with the Eiffel Tower. She would sit on the bottom structure and become, well.....I’m a lady, so I won’t go on.

There is no limit to the sickness of this society.

Why don't you complain to your local government which funds a taxpayer built flophouse for unreformed alcoholics?

Michael Medved is the only who nationally talks about that Seattle shame.

I would think the building would qualify as a “domestic partner” ...

Would this make it possible for her to get life insurance on her “partner” ??

Come up with the money and purchase the building, and then you can do as you please.

To Whom It May Concern,

On December 3rd, around 4 a.m., fourteen participants of Occupy Seattle were arrested in a former community center at 10th and Union during an action to reclaim public space. In the face of the recent slew of closures and cuts to libraries, community centers, and other public spaces, we sought to restore the warehouse, formerly the Union Cultural Center, to its use as a “supportive educational space for teaching, sharing and creating vibrant culture”. I am one of those fourteen who made the decision to save our community’s culture from destruction or colonization by corporate condominium development.

The plans for demolition of this community center will be taking place within a month. Our beloved 10th and Union area will make way for a 20% affordable (that means 80% unaffordable) 79 unit, 6 story luxury apartment complex over ground floor retail. In effect, the artsy, alternative Capitol Hill we have fought so hard to nurture will submit to a complete cultural deterioration. In short, we will enable the loss of the local flavor, charm, and affordability of our historical neighborhood. In seven years do we want Capitol Hill to be completely unrecognizable and only affordable for the upper classes? The price of housing is driven by the income of its wealthiest citizens. House prices can grow faster than the incomes of existing residents if there are enough new affluent residents from outside the metro area who can afford to purchase homes.

Who is next after this? What will this do to our local economy? We have to put our collective foot down to this gentrification!

In 2008, residents of the Marion Building apartments were displaced by developers; however, rather than comply with their orders, the final resident shot himself twelve hours before his eviction and set the building on fire. Three years later, the building still stands bearing scorch marks.

Although we may be inspired by this individual’s extreme act of dedication, we do not have to take such measures. We can stand
together and mobilize our efforts to save this center. We will not let them displace us! We will not let them take our public spaces for
profit! We will fight for community over condos!

On Friday December 16th @ 6 pm, there will be a protest on 10th and Union to save our community center and stop gentrification.

Don't know, but if "they" want, they can adopt.

How about they adopt this cute little darling, just yearning for the right loving family:
