Arrests in Oakland protests rise to more than 400

OAKLAND, Calif (Reuters) - More than 400 anti-Wall Street protesters were arrested in Oakland during a night of skirmishes in which police fired tear gas and bean bag projectiles, the city said on Sunday, marking one of the biggest mass arrests since nationwide economic protests began last year.

Earlier on Sunday, authorities had said that the arrest figure was between 200 and 300. But the Oakland emergency operations center said in a statement that revised that up to more than 400, and said that Oakland Police were expected to announce a more precise number later on Sunday.

Riot police on Saturday night fought running skirmishes with protesters, injuring three officers and at least one demonstrator.

The scuffles erupted in the afternoon as activists sought to take over a shuttered downtown convention center, sparking cat-and-mouse battles that lasted well into the night in a city that has seen tensions between police and protesters boil over repeatedly.

I’ll bet a lot of parents are calling the PD asking if they’ll keep them long enough to give the parents time to clean up the basement.

Next summer's riots will see some of these insurgents shot. Expect it.

IMHO, these freeloading, little piggies need their butts spanked for throwing these tantrums in public.

I thought that Oakland loved these protesters.

But now it looks like Oakland has become a cesspool of police brutality.

The Kent State justified killings of a few overprivileged slimebslls pretty well ended the “student” riots of the late 60’s and early 70’s . It’s clear a few more examples are needed.

I am shocked the mayor is allowing this. She supports OWS.

The mayor isn’t the one paying for this.

One was my Cousin.

You don't know what you are talking about. Not everyone killed were part of the protests.

I really am amazed at how one generation so neatly sliced our connection to the past that made this country great. ne generation ended up cutting asunder the process that was taking this country to a whole new level of greatness, squandered on a dedication to a fantasy.

Excuse me, but do you even know what you are talking about?

The book The Truth About Kent State by Peter Davies offers photographic evidence and eyewitness accounts that show conclusively members of the Ohio National Guard, in a premediated act, fired upon a group of unarmed, nonviolent students. In fact, one of the four students killed, Sandra Scheuer, wasn't even involved in the assembly of students. She was just trying to get to her next class.

Does that make you feel good?

I’m wondering what conservative media, the guy has in mind. I haven’t seen any conservative media lately.

Thanks. She was a beautiful person. I was 14 at the time. We will never know the truth. A certain governor and college president got away with murder.

Looks like the courts didn’t quite agree with that book, since nobody was convicted of anything in slide of the millions of dollars spent by the left trying to lynch some of the guardsmen. Also, were any cvil judgments entered against anyone?

There was a civil trial in the case, which turned out to be a complete sham. The Kent State Coverup by James Munves and Joseph Kelner talks in depth about it.

Are you going to at least try to find the first book I mentioned (it is out of print, but it should be available at your local library) and read it?
