Moderates will vote for Romney because he’s handsome ...

Not my idea of handsome ... but then I'm not a moderate either.

I just finished voting in the boonies of north-central Florida! I was #150 and the only voter there, although a couple walked in as I was leaving.

Most would concede Romney is a good looking guy, or at least better looking than Gingrich. Don’t underestimate the looks factor. It helped Obama against McCain.

Thanks, that is the usual case....and I hope it holds true for today!!! I guess I am just a nutcase thinking that all 4m registered Republicans would be chomping at the bit to vote today, for two reasons, a conservative (Newt) and....more important, to send a message to to “Hate America” Obama and his “America Destroyer” Democrat Party that their political careers will be coming to an end this coming November!!!

We will know shortly, as the results come in this evening!!!

I have often wondered if they would vote for a black Republican over a white Democrat, which would matter more? Party or color?

Remember Governors Lynn Swann and Ken Blackwell? Or how about Senator Michael Steele?

All ran in 2006 as the Republican nominee -- in states with a significant black voting bloc. None of them made more than a dent.

Unfortunately that knife cuts both ways.

I live in Ohio and am from Pennsylvania.

I remember when Ken Blackwell and Lynn Swan were both running for Gov.

I was convinced that it was a lock for both since they would get the Republican vote - plus a higher percentage of the black vote.

There must have been a lot of republicans who couldn't pull the lever for a black candidate since Ed Rendell and Ted Strickland won easily - as I recall.

It was pretty disapointing.

I did sign waving this AM with a friend. We hit 3 polling places covering 12 precincts in SE Broward with large numbers of registered voters. One of the precincts went 45-55 dem in 2008 and I have no clue about breakdowns for the others but they are likely similar. Turnout was very light. The busiest of the 3 polling places was doing about 50 voters an hour and the least busy about 1/2 of that (9-11am).

We got lots of thumbs up for Newt but our sample was so small that it means nothing. Much more interesting is the fact that the Broward SOE shuffled the deck on polling places for a good number of voters. If people show up to the wrong polling place, they are issued a ticket with the new address on it...if their old polling place is still a polling place. If their old site is not in use, they have to figure it out for themselves. I think this may impact the elderly more so than other groups.

While you’re sitting at your computer FReeping, why not make 10 or more phone calls to voters in Florida to help Newt get out the vote?

I will walk you through the steps on how to make calls from your home, right now. Just follow these instructions:

1. Click on the link above.

2. Find and click on the words: FIRST TIME HERE? (Click here to get in!)

3. Fill in the information requested and submit.

4. On the next page, which says “Get on Board, Make a Difference!” look inside the gray box under “Opportunities to Get Involved!”

5. Check the box for “Phone support from home”

6. Then below the gray box, click on the button that says “I’m in! Click here to submit.”

7. Then copy/paste this to your web browser and hit enter: http://t.co/ltHIQq9O

8. The page takes awhile to load, but when it loads up, in the gray box that says “Newt 2012 Phone Bank” click on the down-arrow to select the phone list for: FL Republican Voters - NEW (7891), and click the “Start” button.

9. The next page that opens up will be a NAME, a PHONE NUMBER, and a CALL SCRIPT that you can follow to make the calls.

10. Make the call, check the boxes on the call script, and then click “Save & Next” and it will take you to the next person to call.

It’s that simple!!

Let’s do it FReepers!!

My original reply was to the wrong person, I meant it for the originator of the thread.
*********************************************************

I think folks should take a look at how sneaky, petulant and underhanded Santorum has been in the South Carolina and Florida debates.

I’ve highlighted two excepts from both debates from transcripts. I’ll supply the links to the transcripts at the end of my observations.

South Carolina:
The question is: Who’s the best person to take on President Obama? I would make the argument that a conviction conservative who has a clear contrast with President Obama on the most important issues of the day is the best person — someone who has a clear contrast on health care, a clear contrast on global warming, a clear contrast on the Wall Street bailout — will talk about the one issue — [that huge issue in the last couple of years where government has come in and taken over, and both Newt and Governor Romney have supported that.huge issue in the last couple of years where government has come in and taken over, and both Newt and Governor Romney have supported that.]

(Keep in mind they didn’t have the option to rebut)

Florida:
I’ll repeat the question for you. Why do you think you’re the best, most qualified person on this stage to beat President Obama?

SANTORUM: I agree with the previous two speakers that this is a big election. This is an election about fundamental freedom. It’s about who America is going to be.

Are we a country that’s going to be built great from the bottom up, as our founders intended, or from the top down?

I just think I’m a lot better than the previous two speakers to be able to make that case to the American people. I’m not for a top- down government-run health care system. I wasn’t for the Wall Street bailouts like these two gentlemen were.

Governor Romney talks about the private sector and how he’s going to bring private sector. When the private sector was in trouble, he voted for government to come in and take over the private sector and be able to — and to bail them out.

Cap-and-trade — both of them bought into the global warming hoax, bought into the cap-and-trade, top-down control of our energy and manufacturing sector.

If you look at President Obama’s speech the other night, what did he lead with? He lead with manufacturing. He led with manufacturing why? Because the base of his party, the ones that are always the ones — not the base — the swing vote in his party, the ones that Ronald Reagan was able to get — we call them Reagan Democrats up in Pennsylvania. Those are the blue-collar working people of America who know that this president has left them behind. He has a plan for them, and it’s more dependency, not work, not opportunity.

So he went out and tried to make a play for manufacturing. That’s been the center point of my campaign. The center point of my campaign is to be able to win the industrial heartland, get those Reagan Democrats back, talking about manufacturing, talking about building that ladder of success all the way down so people can climb all the way up.

That’s why I’m the best person to be able to go out and win the states that are necessary to win this presidency and govern with the mandate that Newt just talked about.

(Again he attacks Newt and Romney when they can’t respond)

I think this may impact the elderly more so than other groups.

I have elderly parents and it would upset their applecart, especially if the place was just closed with no idea where to go.

It was pretty disapointing.

There were other factors, as well.

Recall that 2006 was not a good year for Republicans, in general.

The Republican base was generally disspirited by an unresponsive GOP majority in Congress and an apparently drifting Bush administration.

I rather doubt that the drop-off in votes for Blackwell, et al, had anything to do with their color -- but was, instead, a mass revulsion for the governing GOP.

In any event, I don't recall the black vote moving more than a point-or-two in favor of the Republican black candidates.

He reminds me of a line someone said to me once when he was explaining why a new computer system wasn’t working right ....”you know those (computer) salesmen ... always sitting on the edge of the bed and telling you how good it’s gonna be ...” Ugh.
