TAMPA, Fla. — Mitt Romney rolled to victory in the Florida primary on Tuesday evening, according to early returns and exit polls, dispatching an insurgent threat from Newt Gingrich and reclaiming his dominant position in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

There really are 46 states to go, and even if Romney gets nominated, he will never be president. Obama won’t have to run on his record, he’ll demonize Romney so badly, MR will be lucky to emerge from the race without criminal charges hanging over his head.
Third parties have never done well — yet. But at this point I think a third party would be prudent, just in case the GOP collapses altogether in 2012, before November.

The TEA Party wing of the GOP needs to make itself the brain and lungs of the GOP.

Florida is a closed primary state. Yesterday, only Republicans went to the polls. Democrats, Independents, third-partiers and other varmits could not vote.

So, there was no crossover voting.

Oh well, IATZ. I’m sure there is a forum where you can go wave the pom-poms for Willard.

Romney is scum. If he had run a positive, idea-driven ad campaign in FL, he would have been buried by Newt. Instead, he worked to take out the competition through any means necessary—lies, money, and sleazy tactics such ‘Occupy Newt,’ in which RINO politicians would attend Newt rallies to grab camera time.

So, any of you Romneybots who think this is wonderful....turnabout is fair play, and if Willard is handed the nomination, he will be overwhelmed by a much larger attack than that he had unleashed on Newt.

Use this as an opportunity to start Day 1 of boycotting Limbaugh, Fox news and Drudge.

Romney’s win was similar in size to Newt’s win in S Carolina.

I don’t remember the attempted coronation of Newt at that point by the LSM.

Your reactionary thinking is leading you astray.

I’m talking about winning elections. You’re talking about ideological impurity. The war is about beating Obama first. Got it? We have to beat him or nothing else matters!

Once that is accomplished, ANY REPUBLICAN will stop Obamacare. The Constitutional fact is that the States can do some things that the Federal Government can’t do. Having a non-obama in the WHouse is the first step in stopping this madness that the Democrats have created.

Newt’s two poor debate performances (poor for him, but still better than most) were a deciding factor. After thinking about this for awhile it seems that the “great” debator has to have several things going his way...
1. He does not do well going on the defensive
2. He feeds off the crowd (best when it is pro-newt)
3. The type of moderator has some impact
4. He’s best when he is able to share big idea and a vision

In a Lincoln/Douglas style debate he would “clean up!” however we all know that AIN’T going to take place with either Mitt or Obama. After the last two debates I’m not sure he is able to handle a hostile debate focused on taking him down.
He can still get coaching between now and the next debate, but he has to do far better at the next one then he did in Florida. Whether we like it or not Newt has to be at the top of his game ALL the time in debates. In Florida the first of the two could have been just a let down, but two in a row hurt him. He can’t let that happen again; however, he has exposed chinks in his armor let’s pray he can fill those holes in during this lull in public action.

Mitt Romney will govern to the Right of President Obama... it would be impossible not to.

So, if it comes down to choosing between Governor Romney or President Obama .. that is easy.

Having said that... I was very moved by Newt's speech tonight. I love how specific he gets when listing the things he will do. I think his anti-establishment rhetoric is real, and not just political theatre.

I get the feeling that he really will make drastic change if he becomes President.

“We R Skrewed”

Not really.

Romney has to get half the total Delegates and he is not on pace to even come close to that.

The GOP Es only hope is to persuade conservatives to lose heart and not vote.

Barring another Gingrich breakout or Romney implosion, we are going to the Convention with more Delegagtes apportioned to Gingrich, Santorum and Paul combined.

You’re right. Newt’s debate weakness seems to be if he is directly and personally attacked. He needs to practice so that the moment such an attack is launched, he can stop it in its tracks. He also had better figure a way to attack Romneycare as Obamacare and not leave it up to Santorum.

“Earlier Martha McCallum said around 18% of Evangelicals voted for Romney. How is that possible?”

I don’t know, but it is certainly possible that some Evangelicals felt that Newt should have honored the Ten Commandments. Some religious people are funny that way.

“Ads. They voted for freaking ads.”

May the candidate with the most PAC money win! Romney outspent Newt 5 to 1 in Florida, thanks largely to his attack PACs. A real victory for the Citizens United decision.

Romney will NOT stop Obamacare. He intends to impose it at the state level making it “Constitutional.” Romney IS Obama.
